WHEREAS, the City has made a commitment to participate in the
cost of electric power line relocation an the Crockett Connector
Project to the extent necessary to have the relocated lines buried
underground; and,
WHEREAS, the City's commitment consists of an agreement to pay
$128,600 of the estimated $201,600 total cost of the relocation of
lines along the Crockett Street-Laurel Avenue Corridor from the
west side of Main Street to Magnolia Avenue, the amount of the
City's participation being the estimated cost of burying the
relocated lines; and,
WHEREAS, Gulf States Utilities Co. has tendered to the City
a revised estimate of the cost of burying the lines in the vicinity
of the Pine-Main-Tevis Street intersection at a substantially lower
cost, taking into account the impact of burial of the lines west
of Main; and,
WHEREAS, it is now estimated that the burial of these lines
can be accomplished at a cost to the City of $45,000 plus $10,000
in construction services in trenching and backfilling compared to
a preliminary cost estimate of $177,000; and,
WHEREAS, increasing the City's commitment will result in
benefits far exceeding the amount of the additional expenditure,
including benefits not only from the burial of these lines in
itself but also from its effect in completing the overall project
and enhancing the benefits to be derived from the burial of lines
along the Crockett-Laurel Corridor west of Main, tying in with a

similar elimination of overhead power lines in the Stedman Building
Downtown Revitalization Project;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
THAT the City's commitment to cost participation in the relocation
of power lines in the Crockett Connector Project be, and is hereby,
increased by an additional $45,000 plus $10,000 in services to a
total not to exceed $174,000 plus $10,000 in services, the same
being the estimated cost of burying the relocated lines
underground.
