R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Beaumont has
recognized the need for revision of the Federal Clean Air Act;
and,
WHEREAS, the Clean Air Act deadline for attainment of
all air quality standards, including ozone, was extended by
Congress to August 31 , 1988; and,
WHEREAS, major bills to amend the Clean Air Act are
likely to be introduced in Congress in 1988; and,
WHEREAS, the Texas Ozone Task Force based in Houston
has drafted a legislative proposal for which they are seeking a
national coalition of support, beginning with the Dallas/Fort
Worth area through the North Central Texas Council of
Governments; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1 : That the legislative strategy be
transmitted to U. S. Senators and Congressmen representing
the Beaumont area soliciting their views and suggestions.
Section 2: That the legislative strategy be
transmitted to affected local governments, state legislators,
state and federal agencies, and other interested parties, as
appropriate.
Section 3: That the legislative strategy serve as the
basis for discussions with the Texas Ozone Task Force and others
interested in cooperative efforts.

Section 4: That this resolution shall be in effect
immediately upon its adoption.
