R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, a study of the provision of emergency medical
services within the City of Beaumont has been conducted under the
direction of the City Manager; and,
WHEREAS, it has been found that the provision of
emergency services within the City of Beaumont is inadequate; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council is of the opinion that
state of the art emergency medical services should be provided
within the City of Beaumont; and,
WHEREAS, the study conducted under the direction of the
City Manager recommends that such services be provided by a
non-profit corporation organized for that purpose and funded by the
City of Beaumont; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council believes that in order for such
corporation to function effectively it must receive input from and
cooperation of hospitals with emergency care facilities, emergency
care physicians, and users of the service; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council believes that the
recommendations contained in the study done under the direction of
the City Manager should be implemented;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
THAT the City Manger be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed
to take steps necessary to create a Texas non-profit corporation,
organized to provide emergency medical services within the City of
Beaumont, said corporation to be governed by a board of directors
consisting of nine ( 9) members, including representatives of
hospitals with emergency care facilities, emergency care
physicians, officials of the City of Beaumont, and users of the
service; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager be
authorized and directed to prepare, in consultation with the
directors of the corporation, details for the implementation of
a state of the art emergency medical system within the City of
Beaumont to be presented to the City Council for review and
approval .
