ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE ACCEPTING THE TAX ROLL
FOR THE CITY OF BEAUMONT- ESTABLISHING A TAX
RATE; PROVIDING FOR LEVYING, ASSESSING AND
COLLECTING OF AD VALOREM TAXES FOR THE TAX
YEAR 1997; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY AND
PROVIDING FOR REPEAL.
WHEREAS, the Jefferson County Appraisal District has furnished to the City of
Beaumont the certified tax roll for the City of Beaumont for the tax year 1997; and,
WHEREAS, the net taxable assessed value of all property within the City has been
determined by the Jefferson County Appraisal District as of July 29, 1997 to be
$3,499,102,595.00; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the tax roll submitted by the Jefferson
County Appraisal District should be accepted and that a tax rate in the amount of $0.615
per each $100 of value for the tax year 1997 should be established based upon said roll;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE
CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1.
That the tax roll submitted to the City Council by the Jefferson County Appraisal
District, a summary of which is attached as Exhibit "A", and showing the total net taxable
assessed value of all property within the City to be $3,499,102,595.00 is hereby approved
and accepted by the City of Beaumont.
Section 2.
That there shall be and is hereby levied and shall be assessed and collected for the
tax year 1997, for municipal purposes only, an ad valorem tax of $0.615 on each $100
worth of property located within the city limits of the City of Beaumont made taxable by law,
which said taxes, when collected, shall be for the purposes hereinafter set forth as follows:
General Fund - $0.36
For the purpose of paying the
accruing interest and to
provide a sinking fund for the
payment of the entire bonded
indebtedness of the City of
Beaumont - $0.255
Section 3.
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance, or the
application of same to a particular set of persons or circumstances, should for any reason
be held to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the remaining portions of this
ordinance, and to such end the various portions and provisions of this ordinance are
declared to be severable.
Section 4.
That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are repealed to the
extent of the conflict only.
