ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 2 SECTION 2-30 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT TO REDUCE THE TERM OF NEW APPOINTEES TO THE SENIOR CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMISSION FROM THREE YEARS TO TWO YEARS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR REPEAL. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT: Section 1. THAT Chapter 2 Section 2-30 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Beaumont be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: Sec. 2-30. Senior citizens advisory commission. There is hereby created a senior citizens advisory commission composed of fourteen (14) members who are resident citizens and qualified voters of the City of Beaumont. Members shall be senior citizens and others knowledgeable and interested in the concerns of senior citizens. Members of the senior citizens advisory commission shall be appointed by the city council. Of the fourteen (14) members first appointed, five (5) shall be appointed for a term of one (1) year, five (5) shall be appointed for a term of two years, and four (4) shall be appointed for a term of three (3) years; thereafter, the term of office of each member of the senior citizens advisory commission shall be two (2) years or until a successor is appointed. The chairman and vice-chairman shall be appointed by the city council. Vacancies shall be filled by the city council for the unexpired term. Members of the senior citizens advisory commission shall serve without compensation and all members of said commission shall be subject to removal at the will and pleasure of the city council. The duties of the senior citizens advisory commission shall be advisory in nature, and it shall advise the city council and the city manager in matters affecting senior citizens' interest and assist in planning and policymaking for related activities. These duties will include, but not be limited to assisting in the development of plans and policies for the Best Years Center and other programs and facilities provided by the city for senior other programs and facilities provided by the city for senior citizens. The senior citizens advisory commission shall meet monthly or as required by the chairman or the city manager. Section 2. That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance, or the application of same to a particular set of persons or circumstances, should for any reason be held to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the remaining portions of this ordinance, and to such end the various portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable. Section 3. All ordinances or part of ordinances in conflict herewith are repealed to the extent of the conflict only. PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL of the City of Beaumont this the faday of c.l 1991.
