ORDINANCE NO.
ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 21
OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF
BEAUMONT TO AMEND SECTION 21-75 TO
ESTABLISH GRADES, CLASSIFICATIONS AND
POSITIONS IN THE POLICE DEPARTMENT;
PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING
FOR REPEAL.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1.
That Chapter 21, Section 21-75 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Beaumont is
hereby amended to read as follows:
21-75 - The following grades, positions and classifications are hereby created in the
Police Department:
(a) Grade I - There shall be one hundred thirty-six (136) positions in Grade
I, said positions being Police Officers.
(b) Grade II - There shall be sixty-eight (68) positions in Grade II, said
positions to include Police Sergeants and Detectives.
(c) Grade III - There shall be sixteen (16) positions in Grade III, said
positions being Police Lieutenants.
(d) Grade IV, There shall be eight (8) positions in Grade IV, said positions
being Police Captains.
Section 2.
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance, or the
application of same to a particular set of persons or circumstances, should for any reason be
held to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the remaining portions of this ordinance, and
to such end the various portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable.
Section 3.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith, including conflicting portions
of the City Budget, are repealed to the extent of the conflict only.

of 1991.
