ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER
28, SECTION 28-6(b)(3) OF THE CODE OF
ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT
DEALING WITH CERTIFICATION OF
HANDICAPPED STATUS; PROVIDING FOR
SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR REPEAL;
AND PROVIDING FOR A PENALTY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1.
That Chapter 28, Section 28-6(b)(3) of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Beaumont
be, and the same is hereby amended to read as follows:
Sec.28-6.(b)
(3) Transit identification cards.
In lieu of other proof of eligibility, young or elderly persons may purchase transit
identification cards at locations designated by the city. The city will charge a fee
sufficient to cover the cost of the issuance and preparation of the cards. A youth
or elderly person, or someone appearing in their behalf, must present proof of
age (i.e., birth certificate, driver's license, student identification or other
acceptable document) with the completed application.
Handicapped persons will be required to purchase a transit identification card,
but may submit an application through the mail. Applications shall include proof
of disability from a medical doctor or proof of disability from a governmental
agency with appropriate legal authority to certify a person as handicapped. Cards
issued to young, elderly and handicapped persons are nontransferable.
Section 2.
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance, or the
application of same to a particular set of persons or circumstances should for any reason be held
to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the remaining portions of this ordinance, and to
such end the various portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable.

Section 3.
That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are repealed to the extent
of the conflict only.
Section 4.
That any person who violated any provision of this ordinance shall, upon conviction, be
punished as provided in Section 1-8 of the Code of Ordinances of Beaumont, Texas.
