ORDINANCE NO.
ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE CANVASSING THE RETURNS OF
THE REGULAR CITY ELECTION WHICH WAS HELD ON THE
5TH DAY OF APRIL, 1986, FOR THE PURPOSE OF
ELECTING A MAYOR AND TWO (2 ) COUNCILMEN
AT-LARGE; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY AND
PROVIDING FOR REPEAL.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Beaumont, in
session, duly called the regular city election to be held on the
5th day of April, 1986, and the election returns of the votes cast
in said election were canvassed for the following officials:
For the officer for the office of Mayor;
For the officer for the office of Councilman
At-Large
For the officer for the office of Councilman
At-Large;
WHEREAS, after duly canvassing said returns, the City
Council found that the votes cast at said election for the several
candidates for said offices were as follows :
For Mayor:
Maurice Meyers 12, 708 (85.0%)
Joseph S . Mouton 199 ( 1 .3%)
Earl Richards 1, 380 ( 9.2%)
Garfield Landry 655 ( 4 .4%)
For Councilman-At-Large:
James B . Dabney 1, 379 ( 5 .3%)
Amos Landry, Jr . 3, 293 (12.6%)
Robert B. Lee, Jr . 5, 373 (20.6%)
Andrew P. Cokinos 5,635 (21 .6%)
Joseph D. Deshotel 5 , 239 (20. 1%)
Richard S . Helms 377 ( 1 .4%)
G. Wayne Turner 3,646 (14.0%)
Dolores J . Watts 464 ( 1 .8%)
Danny W. Wilkerson 419 ( 1 .6%)
James C . Bailey, Jr . 302 ( 1 .2%)
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE
CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1 .
That the results of said regular City election be, and the same are
hereby, declared to have been as herein set out, and the following
named persons were elected to the following offices:
For Mayor: Maurice Meyers
For Councilman At-Large: Andrew P. Cokinos
For Councilman At-Large: Robert B . Lee, Jr .
The City Council of the City of Beaumont further finds
that notice of said election was duly and properly given as
required by law and provided in the ordinance calling for said
election, and that said election was duly and regularly held and
returns thereof were duly and regularly made by the proper
officials of said election and in all things according to law.
Section 2 .
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or
phrase of this ordinance or the application of same to a particular
person, or to a particular set of circumstances, should for any
reason be held invalid, such invalidity shall in no way affect the
remaining portions of this ordinance and to such end the various
portions and provisions of this ordinance are delcared to be
severable.
Section 3 .
That all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict
herewith are hereby repealed.
