ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 1 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT; DIVIDING THE CITY INTO WARDS FOR ELECTION PURPOSES ONLY AND MATTERS RELATED THERETO; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR REPEAL. WHEREAS, the City Council has this day approved an ordinance calling an election to be held for August 13, 1983, to amend the Charter of the City of Beaumont to provide for the election of the members of the City Council from four (4 ) single- member districts and two ( 2 ) at-large positions, with a mayor elected at-large; and, WHEREAS, if such charter change is approved by the qualified voters at said election, the City Council shall be required to divide the City into wards for election purposes; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT: Section 1 . That Section 1-9 of the Code of the Ordinances of the City of Beaumont be, and the same , is hereby repealed. Section 2 . That the City of Beaumont shall be divided into four (4 ) wards for voting purposes only as described in Exhibits "A" , "B" , "C" , and "D" , attached hereto and made a part hereof for all purposes. Section 3 . This ordinance shall be and become effective if Proposition No. 1 , submitted to the voters in the August 13, 1983 election, is approved by such voters and the enactment of same is declared by ordinance of the City of Beaumont. Section 4 . That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance, or the application of same to a particular set of persons or circumstances, should for any reason be held to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the remaining portions of this ordinance, and to such end the various portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable. Section 5 . That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are repealed to the extent of the conflict only.
