El- 4 d ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 28 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT TO PROVIDE A SCHEDULE OF BUS FARES FOR THE BEAUMONT TRANSIT SYSTEM; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR REPEAL. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT: Section 1 . That Section 28-5 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Beaumont is hereby amended to read as follows: Section 28-5 . Type of Fare Rate or Fare 1 . Adult Fare $0 .40 Persons 19 years of age and older 2 . Young Person's Fare 0 .15 Persons aged 6 to 18 years 3 . Children's Fare Free Age 5 and under a. Children under six must be accompanied by fare paying passenger 4 . Transfers $0 .10 5 . Adult Monthly Pass Card $10.00 This card entitles adult purchaser to unlimited ridership in the month for which such card is issued and shall be non- transferable. 6 . All persons utilizing a fare other than an adult fare shall provide proof of eligibility, if requested by the driver, upon boarding the bus. Section 2 . That Section 28-6 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Beaumont is hereby amended to read as follows: Section 28-6 . 1 . Definitions: a. Young Person - Any person who is six (6 ) to eighteen ( 18) years of age. b . Elderly Person - Any person having reached or passed sixty-five ( 6 5) years of age. 1q 1 A9 c . Handicapped Person - Any person who, by reason of illness, injury, age, congenital malfunction, or other permanent or temporary incapacity or disability, is unable, without special facilities, planning, or design to use mass transit services or facilities as effectively as persons who are not so affected. 2 . Elderly and Handicapped Person Fares $0 .15 Elderly and/or handicapped persons must be able to present proof of eligibility, if requested by the driver, upon boarding the bus. 3 . Young Persons, Elderly and Handicapped Persons Monthly Pass Card $5.00 This card entitles the holder to unlimited ridership in the month for which such card is issued and shall be non-transferable. Persons utilizing the card must be able to present proof of eligibility, if requested, when purchasing the pass card. A person may purchase a pass for another but must present that person's proof of eligibility when purchasing the pass card. 4 . Transit Identification Cards : In lieu of other proof of eligibility, young or elderly persons may purchase transit identification cards at locations designated by the City. The City will charge a fee sufficient to cover the cost of the issuance and preparation of the cards. A youth or elderly person, or someone appearing in their behalf, must present proof of age ( i .e . , birth certificate, driver' s license, student identification or other acceptable document) with the completed application. Handicapped persons will be required to purchase a transit identification card, but may submit an application through the mail. Applications shall include proof of disability from a medical doctor. Cards issued to young, elderly and handicapped persons are non-transferable. Section '3 . That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance, or the application of same to a particular set of persons or circumstances, should for any reason be held to be invalid , such invalidity shall not affect the remaining portions of this ordinance, and to such end the various portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable. 2 - Section 4 . All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are repealed to the extent of the conflict only. PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL of the City of Beaumont this the day of Mayor - 3 -
