ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING
CHAPTER 25, SECTION 25-20 OF THE
CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF
BEAUMONT TO PROVIDE E=dP 'ION OF
$10,000 OF THE MARRET VALUE OF A
RESIDENCE HOMESTEAD OF ANY PERSON
WHO IS DISABLED; PROVIDING FOR
SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR
REPEAL.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1.
That Chapter 25, Section 25-20 of the Code of Ordinances
of the City of Beaumont be, and the same is hereby, amended by
adding new subsections c, d, e, and f to read as follows:
25-20 (c) From and after January 1, 1980, $10,000 of the market
value of the residence homestead of any person who is
disabled shall be exempt from all taxation for city
purposes.
25-20 (d) Disabled as used herein means under a disability for
purposes of payment of disability insurance benefits
under federal old-age, survivors, and disability
insurance.
25-20 (e) In order to secure the exemption, the disabled owner
shall, each year, prior to and including the last day
that current taxes may be paid without penalty, render
the residence homestead with the City Tax Assessor and
collector and shall furnish proof of disability.
25-20 (f) An eligible disabled person who is also 65 years of age
or older may not receive both the disability and the
elderly exemption but may choose either.
Section 2.
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase
of this ordinance, or the application of same to a particular set of
persons or circumstances, should for any reason be held to be invalid,
such invalidity shall not affect the remaining portions of this
ordinance, and to such end the various portions and provisions of this
ordinance are declared to be severable.

Section 3.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith
are repealed to the extent of the conflict only.
