ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE FIRE CODE
OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT AS FOUND IN CHAPTER
TEN OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF
BEAUMONT BY AMENDING SECTION 13-1 .66 TO
REQUIRE FIRE DETECTION AND WARNING SYSTEMS
IN CERTAIN STRUCTURES IN EXCESS OF 2 ,000
SQUARE FEET; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY;
PROVIDING FOR REPEAL AND PROVIDING A
PENALTY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1 .
THAT the Fire Code of the City of Beaumont as found in Article II,
Chapter 10 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Beaumont is
hereinafter amended to amend Section 13-1 .66 to read as follows:
Section 13-1 .66
The proprietor, manager, superintendent or
any other person in charge of a building in
excess of 2 ,000 square feet where persons
are employed or which are occupied by
paying guests shall install an NFPA-72E
detection system and approved exit lights
and signs in such building such that the
exit lights and signs are within sight and
the detection system is within the hearing
of all employees or occupants so that such
employees or occupants.
Section 2.
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or
phrase of this ordinance, or the application of same to a
particular set of persons or circumstances, should for any reason
be held to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the
remaining portions of this ordinance, and to such end the various
portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared to be
severable.
Section 3 .
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict
herewith are repealed to the extent of the conflict only.
Section 4 .
Any person who violates any provision of this ordinance
shall, upon conviction, be punished as provided in Section 1-8 of
the Code of Ordinances of Beaumont, Texas.
