ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING
CHAPTER 28 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES
OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT TO PROVIDE A
SCHEDULE OF BUS FARES FOR THE BEAUMONT
TRANSIT SYSTEM; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND
PROVIDING FOR REPEAL.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1.
That Section 28-5 of the Code of Ordinances of the City
of Beaumont is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 28-5.
From and after May 4, 1981, the following fares shall be in
effect for the Beaumont Transit System:
Type of Fare Rate or Fare
1 . Adult Fare $0.40
Persons 19 years of age and older
2 . Young Person' s Fare 0.15
Persons aged 5 to 18 years
3. Children' s Fare
Age 5 and under
a. Children under five must be accompanied - Free
by fare paying passenger
4 . Transfers $0.10
Section 2.
That Section 28-6 of the Code of Ordinances of the City
of Beaumont is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 28-6.
From and after May 4, 1981 , the following fares and
regulations shall be in effect for the Beaumont Transit System:
1 . Adult Monthly Pass Card $10.00
Entitles adult purchaser to unlimited ridership
in the month for which such card is issued.
2. Elderly and Handicapped Person with Reduced Fare Card
$0.15
DEFINITIONS :
a. Elderly - Any person having reached or passed
sixty-five (65) years of age
b. Handicapped - Any individual who, by reason of
illness, injury , age, congenital malfunction,
or other permanent or temporary incapacity or
disability, is unable, without special facilities,
Planning, or design to use mass transit services
or facilities as effectively as persons who are
not so affected.
3 . Young Persons, Elderly and Handicapped Persons
Monthly Pass
$5.00
Entitles the holder to unlimited ridership in
the month for which such card is issued. Young
persons purchasing the card must present proof
of age or other acceptable documentation ( i.e.
student identification card) . Elderly or
handicapped person purchasing the card must
present reduced fare identification card.
4. Reduced Fare Cards:
Cards will be issued at locations designated by the
City. Fees for the cards will be adequate to cover
the cost of issuance and preparation. Elderly persons
must present proof of age ( i .e. , birth certificate ,
driver's license, or other acceptable document) with
completed application. Cards issued to the elderly
shall be permanent and non-transferable. Handicapped
applicants must furnish proof of disability in the
form of a doctor's certificate or letter with the
completed application. Hancipapped applicants are
also required to furnish proof of disability in the
form of a certificate or letter from a state or
federal agency. The state and federal documentation
requirements may be waived if not applicable. Cards
issued to handicapped persons shall be
non-transferable and either permanent or temporary
based on disability documentation submitted.
Section 3.
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or
phrase of this ordinance, or the application of same to a
particular set of persons or circumstances, should for any reason
be held to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the
remaining portions of this ordinance, and to such end the various
portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared to be
severable.
Section 4.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict
herewith are repealed to the extent of the conflict only.
