WHEREAS, a tax abatement is predicated on a finding that the property located
at 232-260 Crockett Street and 373-375 Pearl are historically significant sites in need of
tax relief to encourage preservation; and,
WHEREAS, the Historic Landmark Commission has met and considered this
application and has found the sites to be historically significant sites in need of tax relief
to encourage preservation and certified this fact to the Planning Director of the City of
Beaumont; and,
WHEREAS, the City's Planning Director has forwarded the application to the City
Council, as required by the ordinance of the City of Beaumont; and,
WHEREAS, the Council desires to approve the eligibility of the property for partial
tax relief pursuant to the ordinances of the City of Beaumont;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
THAT the application for a partial tax exemption for the property located at 232-260
Crockett Street and 373-375 Pearl, respectively:
Tract I:
Being a 0.645 acre tract of land out of and a part of Lot 98, 99, 100 and 101 of Block 16
of the original Townsite of Beaumont as recorded in Volume 448, Page 249 of the Deed
Records of Jefferson County, Texas. Said 0.645 acre tract being situated in the Noah
Tevis Survey, Abstract No. 52, Jefferson County, Texas.
Tract II:
Being a 1.727 acre tract of land out of and a part of Lots 85 through 96 of Block 15 of the
Original Townsite of Beaumont as recorded in Volume 448, Page 249 of the Deed Records
of Jefferson County, Texas. Said 1.727 acre tract being situated in the Noah Tevis
Survey, Abstract 52, Jefferson County, Texas.
Tract I and Tract II are hereby approved and the City Council hereby affirmatively finds
that all the requirements of Article IV of Chapter 25 of the Code of Ordinances of the City
of Beaumont, as amended, have been met and that the sites are historically significant
sites in need of tax relief to encourage preservation and that, in accordance with the
ordinances of the City of Beaumont, the assessed value for ad valorem taxation of the
subject tracts and property shall be equal to $1,800,000 should the property, after
improvements have been completed, be assessed for less than $1,800,000, the applicant
will guarantee the payments in the amount of$50,000. This exemption shall begin on the
first (1 st) day of the first (1 st) tax year after verification of completion of the preservation
required for certification, provided that the provision of Section 25-58 of the Code of
Ordinances have been met and that such verification is made by the City of Beaumont
Historical Landmark Commission.
