BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF BEAUMONT:
WHEREAS, U.S. Congressmen Nick Lampson and Jim Turner, upon discovering
that money allocated to Southeast Texas from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development (HUD) was not being applied for, initiated the formation of the South East
Texas Homeless Coordinating Council; and,
WHEREAS, the South East Texas Homeless Coordinating Council successfully
completed the application process and received the "Simply the Best" award from HUD for
the initial application; and,
WHEREAS, the allocated funds for Southeast Texas were suddenly and severely
cut from $1.2 million to $75,600; and
WHEREAS,the allocated funds for the entire state of Texas were also severely cut
from $36.3 million to $26.5 million, a decrease of 27%; and,
WHEREAS, Congressmen Nick Lampson and Jim Turner are working diligently to
restore funding to Some Other Place ($229,691), Buckner Children and Family Services
($86,070), and Women and Children's Shelter ($452,932); and,
WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Beaumont recognizes the need for
independent gap analyses and priorities reflecting the individuality of Jefferson, Hardin and
Orange counties, and the Cities of Port Arthur, Beaumont and Orange and their respective
Consolidated Plans in order to address homelessness in these areas.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
THAT the City of Beaumont appreciates the work of the Congressmen and strongly
supports them in their efforts to restore the aforementioned funding.
