ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE RATIFYING THE BUDGETED
PROPERTY TAX INCREASE REFLECTED IN THE FY 2020
BUDGET.
WHEREAS, the proposed FY 2020 budget will raise more total property taxes than
last year's budget by $1,305,000.00 or 2.57%; and,
WHEREAS, the adoption of a budget that will raise more revenue from property
taxes than in the previous year requires a vote separate from and in addition to the vote
to adopt the budget;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:

THAT the statements and findings set out in the preamble to this ordinance are
hereby, in all things, approved and adopted.
Section 2.
That the property tax increase reflected in the budget which will raise more total
property taxes than last year's budget by $1,305,000.00 be and the same is hereby, by
separate vote, ratified.
The meeting at which this ordinance was approved was in all things conducted in
strict compliance with the Texas Open Meetings Act, Texas Government Code, Chapter
551.
PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL of the City of Beaumont this the 17th day of
September, 2019.
"I move that the property tax rate be increased by the adoption of a tax rate of 0.710000,
which is effectively a 1.55 percent increase in the tax rate. The tax rate is the same as the
2019 tax rate but is 1.55 percent above the 2019 effective tax rate. This is the third year the tax
rate has remained the same."
