WHEREAS, under provisions of the Urban Mass Transportation Act
of 1964, the United States Department of Transportation, Urban Mass
Transportation Administration, is authorized to make planning grants
to public bodies; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Beaumont desires to develop a total public
bus transportation system for the citizens of the City of Beaumont; and,
WHEREAS, the South East Texas Regional Planning Commission is
the recipient of a transportation planning assistance grant from the
United States Department of Transportation, Urban Mass Transportation
Administration, for the development of an urban short-range mass tran-
sit plan for South East Texas;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
THAT the South East Texas Regional Planning Commission is hereby re-
quested to apply to the United States Department of Transportation,
Urban Mass Transportation Administration, to secure a supplementary
transportation planning assistance grant in an amount not to exceed
Five Thousand Five Hundred and No/100 ($5,500.00) Dollars to assist
the City of Beaumont in site selection and environmental considera-
tions in preliminary design and cost estimates of a vehicle storage
and maintenance facility for public transit vehicles of the City of
Beaumont;
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager be, and he
is hereby authorized to execute a contract -on behalf of the City of
Beaumont with the South East Texas Regional Planning Commission to
effectuate the purposes of said grant and to provide for reimburse-
ment to the South East Texas Regional Planning Commission of local
matching funds in an amount not to exceed One Thousand Three Hundred
Seventy -Five and No/100 ($1,375.00) Dollars, should said application
for planning assistance'be accepted ana funded by the United States
Department of Transportation, Urban Mass Transportation Administration.
