R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, the Texas Criminal Justice Council and the Office
of the Governor of Texas have seen fit to invite the City of Beau-
mont to participate, along with five other Texas cities, in the
Governor's Crime Prevention Program; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Beaumont Police Department desires
to establish within its organization a crime prevention unit
whose purpose will be the reduction of the incidence of crimes
against property, particularly burglary; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Beaumont recognized participation
in the Governor's Crime Prevention Program to be a worthwhile
undertaking; and,
WHEREAS, the Texas Criminal Justice Council has made,
available funds for the establishment of a crime prevention urns
within the Beaumnnt Police Department in the amount of $53,9.65,
and the City of Beaumont is prepared to commit $21,262 in match-
ing funds;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
THAT the City Council does hereby authorize the City Manager to
execute an application, to the Texas Criminal Justice Council,
for funds to establish a crime prevention unit within the Beau-
mont Police Department as required for participation in the
Governor's Crime.Prevention Program, and be it further resolved
that the City Council of the City of Beaumont hereby ratifies
any action taken by the.City Manager previous to this resolution
in signing any applications under this project.
