HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 85 ZZ76- ZZ A RESOLUT ION WHEREAS, the City of Beaumont is desirous of accepting for its use a new Seal of the City; and, WHEREAS, the City Council is of the opinion that the Seal of the-City,.a copy of which is attached hereto, should be adopted; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT: That the Seal of the City of Beaumont attached hereto be, and is hereby, adopted by the City Council of the City of Beaumont and.the City Clerk is hereby authorized to affix the Seal of the City of Beaumont, as attached hereto, to all documents requiring said Seal. PASSED by the City Council this the 5th day of January, 1971. Mayor - BEAUMONT.TEXAS C City of Beaumont, Texas The blue and green colors in the seal indicate the land and water of Beaumont, which is rich in resources of greenery and water. In the background of the seal is the semblance of water. In the center of the seal is the sun,which depicts energy and the beautiful weather of Beaumont. Also included in the seal are seven symbols in the shape of trees,representing the numerous trees in the City of Beaumont and the entire area. Also representative of the symbols is the gasoline and petroleum industries, plentiful in this area. Roll Call: Ayes - all Nayes - none • -000- Next am on the agenda concerned a project which has been underway for sometime to try to determine a reasonably attractive common seal for the City of Beaumont. The City currently has a key which has an emblematic type of reference to the City of Beaumont as well as the. official stamp for the City of .Beaumont which is a star. A decal design has been placed on City equipment which had the State of Texas and an Oilwell in the general area of Beaumont. Mr. Hill explained that rather than having so many emblems for the City of Beaumont it was anticipated that it might be more desirable to have a common seal or common identification emblem. Mr. Hill stated that with the suggestion of the Mayor and the encouragement,of the Council, a design had been prepared which was handed to the Mayor and Councilmen to view. He stated that the nee and green colors'in the seal indicates the pertaining to the IOW and the.water of Beaumont which is rich in resources and greenery and water. , In the center part is a semblance of the water; there are seven tree-looking items which are essentially there to indicate, seven being a significant number indicating growth and vitality, either symbols of the gasoline type or petroleum industries as well as the trees in the City of Beau- mont and this area. The sun depicting item indicates energy which is obviously an important thing in this part of the country, as well as the beautiful weather in Beaumont which makes the trees and everything grow. Mr. Hill continued that in taking the most advantageous parts of Beaumont, this particular seal or emblem does summarize these, and indicate what Beaumont is rich in, resource and vitality. Also, the City Seal which is affixed to all documents. Decals which the Council took action on several months ago have not been ordered until acceptance of a seal is determined. It is the Staff's recom- mendation that this particular emblem be adopted as the Seal of the City of Beaumont. Mayor Ritter commented that this is a rather modernistic approach, he thought it was very well done, and that a lot of the City's correspondence goes all over the United States and some foreign countries, and letterheads are all that some companies see of the City of.Beau- mont, and this is an impression they get, and it is his belief that this is very important to the City.
