HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 214 XX.?rdll Xx A R E S 0 L U T I 0 N CANVASSING RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF A SPECIAL ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF BEAUMONT ON THE 10TH DAY OF JUNE, 1969, TO DETERMINE WHETHER A CABLE TELEVISION FRAN- CHISE SHOULD BE GRANTED TO BEAUMONT CABLE- VISION, INC. PURSUANT TO ORDINANCE NO. 69-4 WHICH WAS PASSED ON THIRD AND FINAL READING BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT ON FEBRUARY 25,1969;.ALSO TO DETERMINE WHETHER IHE`CITIZENS OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT ARE IN FAVOR OF A. PROPOSED MINIMUM HOUSING CODE. WHEREAS, the City Council of The City of Beaumont, at a regular session held on the 13th day of May, 1969, enacted an Ordinance calling an election to be held in The City of Beaumont on the 10th day of June, 1969, to submit to the qualified electors the proposition of whether a cable television franchise should be granted to Beaumont Cablevision, Inc. and whether the citizens of Beaumont are in favor of a proposed minimum housing code; and, WHEREAS; notice of said election was duly given in accordance with law, and returns thereof have been duly made by the election officials, and having duly and regularly can- vassed the returns of said election; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT: That the City Council finds that there were cast at said election 8,141 votes. On proposition one concerning the cable television franchise to Beaumont Cablevision, Inc., there were cast: For the granting of the franchise to --Beaumont-- Ga - -evi-s i on ; - Inc-.- - — - 3,51 -1 -- Against 511 -- Against the granting of the franchise to Beaumont Cablevision, Inc. 4,520 On proposition two concerning the minimum housing code there were cast: BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Beaumont that the proposition concerning the granting of a cable television franchise to Beaumont Cablevision, Inc. was defeated at said election; therefore, said franchise shall not take effect and the ordinance granting said franchise is of no force and effect; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of The City of Beaumont that the proposition concerning the proposed minimum housing code was defeated at said election. 1969.
