Entitled an Ordinance providing for the levying, assessing
and collecting of ad valorem and other taxes for they year 1925, for
the purpose of providing a sinking fund to meet the payment of all
bonded indebtedness of the City of Beaumont, and the, payment of accru-
ing interest thereon; providing for the support and maintenance of
the City of .6eaumont Publie: Free Schools; to pay the expenses of the
Departments of the City Government, as named in said ordinanc e, and
the general expense of the City Government, and apporti oning the taxes
to be levied to such departments and purposes as set forth in said
Ordinen.ce; providing for the payment of Occupation `lax ; and declaring
an emergency
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMUISSION OF THE
CITY OF B AUMNT:
Section 1.
That there shall be and is hereby levied, and shall be
assessed and collected for the year 1925, an ad valorem tax of Ii'wo and
25/100 Lollars ($p2.25) on each one hundred dollars worth of property
in the City of .Ceaumont located within the territory comprising the
old city limits existing prior to the adoption of the present City
Charter and comprising the Beaumont Independent School Listrict in the
City of Beaumont made taxable by law, which said taxes, when collected,
shall be, according to Section 16 of the Uharter of the City of
Beaumont, apportioned among the funds and departments of the city
government of the Jity of Beaumont, and for the purposes hereinafter
set forth, as follows, to -wit;

That there shall be and is hereby levied and shall be assessed
and collected for the year 1925 an ad valorem tax of x')1.38 on each X100.00
worth of property located within and comprising that portion of the City
of Beaumont lying outside of the old city limits described in Section 1
hereof in the City of Beaumont made taxable by law, which said taxes
when collected, shall be, according to Section 16 of the Charter ar �he

virtue of an ordinance passed on the 8th day of

5 eat ion 3.
That there shall be and is hereby levied and shall be
assessed and collected for the year 1925 a school maintenance tax
of 70y on each :100.00 worth of property in -ths territory taken in
to the City of Beaumont for school purposes only by the City Commission
of the amity of Beaumont by ordinance passed the 27th day of November,
A. D. 1923, and there shall be and is hereby levied and shall be
assessed and collected for the year 1925 a tax of 17� on each 9100.00
wotth of property to take care of the interest and sinking fund on
the school bonded indebtedness of the City of Beaumont. Said tax
is hereby levied and shall be assessed and collected for said year
on all prop er ty in the territory taken in by the City of Beaumont
for school purposes only by an ordinance passed by the City Commission
of said City on the 27th day of November, 1. D. 1923, said territory
being known as a portion of what is commonly called the French School
District.
Section 4.
That there shall be and is hereby levied, and there shall
be Collected on all occupations and callings on which an occupation
tax is levied by the State of Texas, a sum equal to one-half of the
amount so levied by the State of Texas, on each respective occupation
or calling in the City of Beaumont.
Seat inn 5.
There being no Ordinance in effect levying the taxes for
the year 1925, and the taxes for said year being now due and payable
an immediate public emergency exists, necessitating the suspension 01'
the rule requiring ordinances to be, read on three separate days be-
fore passage; wherefore said rule is hereby suspended and it is en-
acted that this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage and signature of the T ,:Mor.
