HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 31-I,+ c AN ORDINANCE M ev,(A ORDERING THE GENERAL{ MUNICIPAL ELECTION FOR THE CITY OF BEAUMONT FOR TT_JE YEAR 1931'; � AS PROVIDED BY THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, ON TILE DATE AND AT THE PLACE SET FORTH IN SAID ORDINANCE FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING SIX COUNCILMEN AS DESIGNATED IN SAID ORDINANCE; NAMING THE PLACES AT WHICH SAID ELECTION SHALL BE HELD; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BE AUMONT : Section 1. That in accordance with Section 26, Subsection 49 of the Charter of the City of Beaumont and other provisions of said Charter, and the laws of 'the State of Texas relating thereto, there shall be held in the City of Beaumont on, the first Tuesday in April, 1931, the same being the 7th day of April, A. D. 1931, a regular municipal election for said city for the purpose of electing two councilmen from the First Ward, two councilmen from the Sec cnd Ward, and two councilmen from the Third Ward in said - City: Section 2® That said election shall be held in the City of Beaumont in the following places, to wit: In the First Ward at the -Averill School Building, and Central Fire Station. In the Second Ward at the City Hall o In the Third 'Hard at the Sabine Pass Fire Station, and South Park Elementary School Building on Highland Avenue. Section 38 The following named persons are appointed presiding judges for their respective voting bores in said wards, with the authority to select` and appoint their own clerks: At the Averill School Building J. R. Edmonds _At the Central Fire Station J. G. Fuqua —,At the City Hall S. E. Bigham ,At the Sabine Pass Fire Station Mrs. Ben Pipkin At the South Park Elementary School Bldg® T. A. Allen Section 5® That a copy of this ordinance signed by the Mayor of. the City of Beaumont, and attested by the- City Clerk thereof shall, serve as --proper and sufficient notice of said election; and the Mayor is- hereby directed -to cause a copy of this ordinance, signed -by himself and attested .by tl-ie City Clerk, to be posted at each of the places herein designated for holding said election at least thirty (30) days prior to t -be date of holding said election. Secti on- 60 That an ordinance has not yet been passed -providing for and. ordering a general municipal election for the year 1931, and that such ordinance is necessary, thereby creating an imperative public emergency 'necessi tating the suspension 'of the rule requiring ordinances to be read on three separate days before their passage; wY)eref ore, - said rule is hereby suspended and this ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage- and the signature of the, Mayor.
