AN ORDINANCE
ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE REQUIRING PUBLIC UTIL-
ITIES -OR ANY OWNER OF PUBLIC _UTILITY FRANCHISE
TO.FILE CERTIFIED COPIES OF FRANCHISES WITH THE
CITY..CLERK,.AND PROVIDING PENALTY.
WHEREAS, the present Charter of the City of Beaumont
became effective on December 9, 1947; and,
WHEREAS, Article XV, Section 11 of said Charter provides
that every public utility and every owner of a public utility
franchise within six (6) months after said Charter takes
effect shall file with the City, as may be prescribed by
ordinance, certified copies of all the franchises owned or
claimed within the City or under which such utility operates
within the City; and,
WHEREAS, the City Commission of the City of Beaumont is
of the opinion that such franchise owners should be compelled
to comply with said provision of the City Charter;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED -BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF BEAUMIONT;
Section 1.
That every public utility and every owner of a public
utility franchise shall file with the City Clerk of the City
of Beaumont a certified copy of each franchise owned or
claimed within the City or under which such utility operates
within the City, within six (6) months from and after Decem-
ber 9, 19471 the effective date of -the present Charter of the
City of Beaumont.
Section 2.
It shall be unlawful after the expiration of said six
(6) months' period for any public utility or any owner of a
public utility franchise to exercise rights or privileges

under said franchise without first having complied with
Section 1 hereof, and any and every franchise holder fail-
ing to comply with said requirement shall be deemed guilty
of a misdemeanor and upon conviction fined in any sum not
exceeding twenty-five ($25.00) dollars, and each and every
day of noncompliance with said Section 1 hereof shall con-
stitute a separate and distinct offence.
PASSED by the affirmative vote of the City Commission,
