SECTION 37--20 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF BEAUMONT,
TEXAS; PROVIDING THAT DRIVERS OF'A,UTHORIZED EMER-
GENCY VEHICLES MAY EXERCISE -CERTAIN PRIVILEGES AS
SET FORTH HEREIN, BUT SUBJECT TO CERTAIN CONDITIONS
AS SET FORTH HEREIN; PROVIDING SPEED LIMITS WHICH
MUST BE OBSERVED BY AMBULANCE DRIVERS; PROVIDING A
PENALTY, ,AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS:
Section 1.
That Subsection (b) of Section 37-.20 of the Code of Ordi-
nances of Beaumont, Texas; is hereby amended to read as follows:
it(b) The driver of an authorized emergency vehicle
may:
1. Park or stand"irrespective of the provisions
of this chapter.
2. Proceed past a red or stop signal or stop
sign, but only after slowing down as may be necessary
for safe operation.
3. Disregard regulations governing direction of
movement for turning in.specified directions.
4. Exceed the prima facie speed limit so long.
as he does not endanger life or property; provided,
however, that the driver of an.ambulance operating as
an emergency vehicle shall not drive such ambulance at
a rate -of speed in excess of ten (10) miles per hour
greater than the established prima,facie speed limits
on the route of travel of such ambulari.ce; provided,
further, that notwithstanding -other provisions of this
section, the driver of an ambulance operating as an
emergency vehicle shall not drive such ambulance at a
rate .of speed in excess of the prima facie speed limits
within school zones. as established by Sec. 37--58.1 of
this Code during the times provided by the said Sec.
37-58.1; and provided, further, that notwithstanding
other provisions" of this section the driver of an ambu-
lance operating .as an emergency vehicle shall not drive
such.ambulance at a rate of speed in excess of thirty
(30) miles per hour on Main Street from Calder Avenue
to Gilbert Street; on Pearl Street from Calder Avenue
to Gilbert Street; on Orleans Street from Broadway to
Gilbert Street; on Park Street from Crockett Street to
College ,Street; on Liberty Street from Orleans Street
to Main,Street; on Broadway from Orleans Street to Main
Street; and on all streets running east and west from
Park Street to Main Street and intersecting Pearl, Or-
leans, Park, and Main Streets from Broadway to College
Street . at

Section 2.
Every person convicted of a violation of any of the provis-
ions of this ordinance shall be punished as provided in.Section 1-8
of the Code of Ordinances of Beaumont, Texas.
Section 3.
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase
of this ordinance, or the.application of same to a particular set
of persons or circumstances, should for any reason be held invalid,
such invalidity shall inno wise affect the remaining portions of
this ordinance, and to such end various portions and provisions of
this ordinance are declared tobe severable.
