H`AWN HAL.WOODWARD i TEXAS HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT Beaumont, Texas August 26, 1959 Control 200 11 on U.S. 69 .4 Mi. North of S.H. 105 and .35 Mi. South of S.H. 105 in Beaumont, Jefferson County, District 20 Mr. James Garrard City Manager City of Beaumont Beaumont, Texas Subject: Highway Traffic Signal Ordinance and Agreement. Dear Mr. Garrard: STATE HIGHWAY ENGINEER D. C. GREER IN REPLY REFER TO FILE NO. Construction is now in progress on U. S. Highway 69, 96 and 287 in north Beaumont. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 1959• At present, all U. S. 69 traffic is routed over the west frontage road while the east frontage road is being constructed. Upon completion of the east frontage road, north and south bound U. S. 69 traffic will be separated by using the east frontage road and west frontage road respectively. The present construction area extends approximately .4 mile north of S.H. 105 and approximately -35 mile south of S.H. 105. The present project, which is nearing completion will not be the ultimate of construction. Therefore, the extreme ends of this project are likely to be particularly hazardous to south - bound traffic entering and leaving this area. This hazard will exist until such time funds are appropriated to construct the remaining portions of the north prong. It is our thoughtthat between these stages of construction, special barricade warning beacons and safety lighting are warranted. We request that you execute the original and two copies of the attached Ordinance and Agreement and return them to this office for further handling. AFF/jlj Encl. Yours very truly, e W. W. E.
