HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 78-101R M • ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 12, SECTIONS 12-19(l), 12-19(2) AND 12-20(l) ESTABLISHING POSITIONS AND PAY GRADES IN THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY AND PROVIDING FOR REPEAL. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT: Section 1. THAT Chapter 12, Section 12-19(1) and 12-19(2), be and the same are hereby, amended to read as follows: Section 12-19 - Grades and Classifications in the Police Department All positions in the Police Department of the City of Beaumont, Texas, are hereby classified into the following grades. Each grade having duties of substantially simi- lar authority, importance and responsibility: (1) Grade I. There shall be 131 positions in Grade I, said positions to include patrolmen. The base pay of every officer who has been in this grade less than one (1) year shall be $930.00 per month; the base pay of every officer in this grade with one (1) or more years of service but less than three (3) years of service shall be $1,035.00 per month; the base pay of every officer in this grade with three (3) or more years of service but less than five (5) years of ser- vice shall be $1,085.00 per month and the base pay of every officer in this grade with five (5) or more years of service shall be $1,125.00 per month. (2) Grade II. There shall be 56 positions in Grade II, said positions to include -70 �'_L724 — / a � 6,, —, c IrIJ //.,13 sergeants and detectives. The base pay of every officer who has been in this grade less than five (5) years shall be $1,205.00 per month; and the base pay of every officer in this grade with more than five (5) years service shall be $1,235.00 per month. That Chapter 12, Section 12-20(1) of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Beaumont is hereby amended to read as follows: Section 12-20 - Grades and Classifications in the Fire Department. All positions in the Fire Department of the City of Beaumont, Texas, are hereby classified into the following grades, each grade having duties of substantially simi- lar authority, importance and responsibility: (1) Grade I. There shall be 111 positions in Grade I, said positions to include Fire- fighters. The base pay of every firefighter who has been in this grade less than six (6) months shall be $930.00 per month; the base pay of every firefighter in this grade with six (6) months or more service but less.than one (1) year of service shall be $977.00 per month; the base pay of every firefighter in this grade with one (1) or more years of service but less than three (3) years of ser- vice.shall be $1,016.00 per month; the base pay of every firefighter in this grade with three (3) or more years of service but less than five (5) years of service shall be $1,072.00 per month; the base pay of every. firefighter in this grade with five (5) or more years service shall be $1,100.00 per month. -2- That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of this ordinance, or the application of same to a particular set of persons or circumstances, should for any reason be held to be invalid, such invalidity shall in no wise affect the remaining portions of this ordinance, and to such end the various portions and provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL of the City of Beaumont this the �� day ofol-jp 1978. -3-
