ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 8,
SECTION 8-1 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF
THE CITY OF BEAUMONT TO ADOPT THE 1976
EDITION OF THE STANDARD BUILDING CODE WITH
THE 1977 AMENDMENTS WITH THE EXCEPTION OF
APPENDIX "J"; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY,
PROVIDING FOR REPEAL AND PROVIDING A PENALTY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY TIE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
THAT Chapter 8, Section 8-1 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of
Beaumont, be, and the same is hereby, amended to read as follows:
Section 8-1 - There is hereby adopted by the City for. the
purpose of establishing rules and regulations
for the construction, alteration, removal,
demolition, equipment, use and occupancy,
location and maintenance of buildings and
structures, excluding permits and penalties,
that certain building code known as the
Standard Building -Code recommended by the
Southern Building Code Congress, being par-
ticularly the 1976 edition thereof with the
1977 amendments thereof, with the exception
of Appendix "J", of which one copy has been
and now is filed in the office of the City
Clerk of the City and the same is hereby
adopted and incorporated as fully as if set
out at length herein, and from the date on
which this section shall take effect, the
provisions thereof shall be controlling in
the construction, alteration, repair, re-
moval, demolition, equipment and maintenance
of all buildings and other structures within
the corporate limits of the City save and
except the portions of the Standard Building
Code which are hereby deleted, substituted,
modified or amended as set forth in this
chapter.

That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or
phrase of this ordinance, or the application of same to a particular
set of persons or circumstances, should for any reason be held to be
invalid, such invalidity shall in no wise affect the remaining portions
of this ordinance, and to such end the various portions and provisions
of this ordinance are declared to be severable.
&2Ction 3.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith .
are hereby repealed.
Any person who violates any provision of this ordinance
shall, upon conviction, be punished as provided in Section 1-8 of the
Code of Ordinances of Beaumont, Texas.
