ORDINANCE NO
ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 8 BY
SUBSTITUTING A NEW SECTION 8-1; PROVIDING FOR
THE ADOPTION OF THE 1973 ADDITION OF THE SOUTH-
ERN STANDARD BUILDING CODE AND THE 1974 AMEND-
MENTS THERETO; DELETING SECTION 518.2 OF SAID
CODE DEALING WITH COMPARTMENTATION; AND DELET-
ING APPENDIX "L"; PROVIDING FOR THE REPEAL OF
SECTION 8-2 DEALING WITH FEES; PROVIDING FOR
SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR REPEAL; AND PROVID-
ING FOR A PENALTY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
1.
Chapter 8 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Beaumont is
hereby amended by amending Section 8-1 to read as follows:
Section 8-1: ' 'Adoptiori 'of 'S'outh'ern 'S't'and'ard
Building Code.
There is hereby adopted by the City for the
purpose of establishing rules and regulations
for the construction, alteration, removal,
demolition, equipment, use and occupancy, lo-
cation and maintenance of buildings and struc-
tures, excluding permits and penalties, that
certain building code known as the Southern
Standard Building Code recommended by the
Southern Building Code Congress being particu-
larly the 1973 revision thereof and the 1974
amendments thereto, of which one copy has been
and now is filed in the office of the City
Clerk of the City and the same is hereby adop-
ted and incorporated as fully as if set out at
length herein, and from the date on which this .
section shall take effect, the provisions there-
of shall be controlling in the construction, al-
teration, repair, removal, demolition, equipment
and maintenance of all buildings and other struc-
tures within the corporate limits of the City,
save and except Section 518.2 tl-fxeof dealing
with compartmentation which is hereby deleted
and Appendix "L", dealing with thermal perfor-
mance which is hereby deleted.

Chapter 8 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Beaumont is
hereby amended by repealing Section 8-2, dealing with building permit
fees.
3.
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase of

this ordinance or the application of same to a particular set of persons
or circumstances should for any reason be held to be invalid, such in-
validity shall in no wise affect the remaining portions of this ordinance,
and to such end the provisions of this ordinance are declared to be sever-
able.
4.
That all ordinances -and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith
are hereby repealed.
5.
That any person, firm or corporation violating any provision of
this ordinance shall, upon conviction, be punished as -provided in Section
1-8 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Beaumont, Texas.
