ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE CREATING A TRAFFIC SAFETY
SUPPORT COMMITTEE IN THE CITY OF BEAUMONT AND
PROVIDING THE DUTIES FOR SAID COMMITTEE.; PRO-
VIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR REPEAL.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1.
That there is hereby established in the City of Beaumont
a committee known as the Traffic Safety.Support Committee com-
posed of eighteen (18) members. The members of the Traffic
Safety Support Committee shall be appointed by the City Council.
Of the eighteen (18) members appointed, nine (9) members shall
be appointed for a term of two (2) years, and nine (9) members
appointed initially for three (3) years; thereafter, the term
of office for each member of the committee shall be for two
(2) years or until a successor is appointed. The City Council
shall name one of the commissioners as chairman. Vacancies
shall be filled by the City Council for the unexpired term.
Members of the Traffic Safety Support Committee shall serve
without compensation.
Section 2.
The duties of the Traffic Safety Support Committee shall
be advisory in nature to the City Council and the City Manager.
11---I-t shall recommend traffic safety, objectives and policies,
assist in planning for a continuing program of traffic safety
and development, and review all traffic safety plans as sub-
mitted by the City of Beaumont to the Governor's Office of
Traffic Safety. The committee shall meet at least quarterly,
and at any other time as scheduled by the City Manager.
Section 3.
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or
phrase of this ordinance, or the application of same to a
particular set of persons or circumstances, should for any
reason be held to be invalid, such invalidity shall in no wise
affect the remaining portions of this ordinance, and to such
end the various portions and provisions of this ordinance are
declared to be severable.
Section 4.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict here-
with are hereby repealed.
