ORDINANCE NO. .
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 39-18 OF
CHAPTER 39 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF
THE CITY OF BEAUMONT BY INCREASING CER-
TAIN OF THE RATES AUTHORIZED THEREIN TO BE
CHARGED BY ENTEX, INC. (PREVIOUSLY NAMED
UNITED GAS, INC.), ITS SUCCESSORS AND
ASSIGNS, IN SAID CITY OF BEAUMONT FOR
NATURAL GAS AND NATURAL GAS SERVICE
FURNISHED BY IT TO RESIDENTIAL AND COM-
MERCIAL CONSUMERS; FIXING THE EFFECTIVE
DATES OF THE RATE INCREASES PRESCRIBED
IN THIS ORDINANCE; PROVIDING FOR REPEAL;
AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY.
WHEREAS, on or about October 15 , 19 74,
Entex, Inc. (previously named United Gas, Inc.) completed its
presentation of its application for an increase in certain
of the rates to be charged for natural gas and natural gas
service in the City of Beaumont in a public hearing accorded
to said Company; and
WHEREAS, the. City Council, having heard and fully
considered the evidence adduced at said hearing, recognized
that certain of the rates now being charged by Entex, Inc.
for natural gas and natural gas service in the City of
Beaumont should be increased,
BEAUMONT:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF
Section 1.
That Section 39-18 of Chapter 39 of the Code of
Ordinances of the City of Beaumont (as enacted in Ordinance No.
73-.51 of the City of Beaumont on July 3, 1973) is hereby
amended in the following respects:
(a) The first step in the Monthly Rate prescribed
in the schedule of Residential Rates contained in Section 39-18
is hereby increased from $2.50 per month to $2.71 per month,
and said step, as so.amended, shall read "$2.71 per month,
which includes the use of 600 cubic feet".
(b) The Minimum Monthly Bill prescribed in the
schedule of Residential Rates contained in Section 39-18 is
hereby increased from $2.50 to $2.71.

(c) The first step in the Monthly Rate prescribed
in the schedule of Commercial Rates contained in Section 39-18
is hereby increased from $3..00 per month to.$3.21 per month,
and said step, as so amended, shall read "$3.21 per month,
which includes the use of 600 cubic feet".
(d) The Minimum Monthly Bill prescribed in the
schedule of Commercial Rates contained in Section 39-18 is
hereby increased from $3.00 to $3.21.
Section 2.
The amendments to Section 39-18 of Chapter 39 of
the Code of Ordinances of the City of Beaumont prescribed
above and the rate increases authorized therein shall apply
on all bills rendered for gas and for gas service after, the
effective date of this ordinance, viz, the date of passage
of this ordinance.
Section 3.
All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict
herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of the conflict
only.
Section 4.
If any section, subsection, sentence, clause or
phrase of this ordinance, or the application of same to a
particular set of persons or circumstances should for any
reason be held invalid, such invalidity shall in no wise
affect the remaining portions of this ordinance, and to such
end the various provisions of this ordinance are declared
to be severable.
