ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 37, SEC-
TION 37-58.1 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE
CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS, ADDING AND DELETING
CERTAIN SPEED LIMITS NEAR SCHOOLS AT CERTAIN
TIMES OF THE DAY AND CERTAIN DAYS OF THE WEEK;
PROVIDING A PENALTY; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY;
AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
1.
Chapter 37, Section 37-58.1 is hereby amended as follows:
Section 37-'58.1 - Decreased in certain zones.
It is hereby determined upon the basis of an
engineering and traffic investigation, that
the speed permitted by state law upon those
streets, or portions of streets described in
the schedule below is greater than is reason-
able or safe under the conditions found to
exist upon such streets and it is hereby de-
clared that the prima facie speed limit upon
those streets or portions thereof described
in the schedule below shall be decreased as
therein stated and the limits so declared
shall be effective at the times specified
therein when signs are erected giving notice
thereof..
SCHEDULE
In accordance with this. section, and when
signs are erected giving notice thereof, the
prima facie speed limit shall be twenty (20)
miles per hour in the following zones between
the hours of seven -thirty o'clock A. M. and
eight.forty-five o'clock'A. M. (7:30 A. M. and
8:45 A. M.) and two• o'clock P. M. and three
forty-five o'clock P. M. (2:00 P. M. and 3:45
P. M.) Monday through'Friday on school days.

If a portion or provision. of this ordinance be held invalid
or unconstitutional, the validity of the remaining provisions shall
not be affected thereby, and .for this purpose, the City Council of the
City of Beaumont declares this ordinance to be severable.
3.
Any person violating the provisions of the section shall be
guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punished in accordance with Section
1-8 of this Code.
4.
All.ordinances, or parts of ordinances, in conflict herewith
are hereby repealed to the extent of the conflict only.
