ORDINANCE NO. 7
ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 42, SEC-
TION 42-2(b) OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE
CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS, BY ELIMINATING THE RE-
QUIREMENT THAT MEMBERS OF THE CITY PLANNING AND
ZONING COMMISSION BE OWNERS OF REAL ESTATE IN
THE CITY; PROVIDING FOR REPEAL; AND PROVIDING
FOR SEVERABILITY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1.

That Chapter 42, Section 42-2(b) of the Code of Ordinances of
the City of Beaumont, Texas, is hereby amended to read as follows:
Section 42-2(b): The members of the City
Planning and Zoning Commission shall be
resident citizens, and qualified voters of
this city. The members of the City Planning
and Zoning Commission shall be appointed by
the City Council. Of the nine (9) members
appointed, three (3) shall be appointed for
a term of three (3) years, beginning on
August 1,1960, three (3) shall be appointed
for a term of two (2) years, beginning on
August 1, 1960, and three (3) shall be ap-
pointed for a term of one (1) year beginning
on August 1, 1960. Thereafter the term of
office of each commissioner shall be for
three (3) years, or until a successor is
appointed. The City Council shall name
one of the commissioners as Chairman and
one as Vice -Chairman of the Commission.
Section 2.
That all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict here-
with are hereby repealed.
Section 3.
That if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase
of this ordinance: -or the application of same to a particular set of
persons or circumstances should for any reason be held to be invalid,
such invalidity shall in no wise affect the remaining portions of this
ordinance, and to such end the provisions of this ordinance are de-
clared to be severable.
PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL of the City of Beaumont this the
