JULY 2, 1952 BE IT REAVEBBERED that the City Planning Commission of the City of Beaumont, Texas, met in special session on the 2nd day of July, 1952, with the following present: C. B. Holland, Chairman C. E. Holland .Russell Phelps (Proxy) Leonard Stone (Proxy) Miss Florence McCluskey Absent: P. G. Matthews Others Present: J. D. Martin, City Engineer George Schaumburg Mi.nutles of the previous meeting held May 29, 1952, were approved on motion made by C. E. Holland and seconded by C. B Holland. -D M. City Engineer Martin told the Planning Commission that a letter with a resolution attached to it had been received from the Beaumont City Schools dedicating a tract or piece of land being sixty (60) feet in width and extending from French Road and lying partly in the easterly portion of a two (2) acre tract, in Block 8, of the French Heights Addition, and partly in the tract of land known as the W. J. Blewett Tract in the Absalom Williams League, for a street across the school property. Motion was made by C. E. Holland and seconded by Florence McCluskey that the Planning Commission recommend to the City Council that the dedication be accepted. City Engineer Martin told the Planning Commission that a letter with a resolution attached to it had been received from the Beaumont City Schools requesting that an alleyway fourteen feet (14") in width lying along the north line_ of three tracts of land .out of the- A. Williams Headright Survey, a part of the Cyrus Haynes homestead on Colliers Ferry Road, be closed. Motion was made by Leonard Stone and seconded by Florence McCluskey that the Planning Commission recommend to the City Council that the alley be closed. .•v Mr. George Schaumburg appeared before the Commission and requested final approval of Thornwood Addition. Motion was made by C.. E. Holland and seconded by Florence McCluskey that.final approval be given Thornwood Addition. Mr. Schaumburg requested preliminary approval of Russell Place. He stated that the area would probably be broken down in two or three units later. Motion was made by C. E. Holland and seconded by Florence McCluskey that prelimi.. nary approval be given Russell Place. -000- A petition was presented, signed by,the Magnolia improvement Compary, requesting that the portion of Ironton Street running south from the south line of Arthur Street in Glenwood Addition, and an unnamed street running east from Detroit Street in Glenwood Addition connecting with the south.end'of Ironton Street, be closed. The petition stated that the portion of Ironton Street and the unnamed street lies within unimproved tract of land and that the streets have never been opened and are not now in use and are not practical for the development of the territory over which the streets have been dedicated. Mr. Schaumburg stated that the Magnolia Improvement Company are the sole owners of this property. Motion was made by Florence McCluskey and seconded by C. E. Holland that the, Planning Commission recommend to the City Council that the portion of Ironton Street and the unnamed street above described be closed.
