HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 12-XAN ORDINANCE ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE ORDERING THE GENERAL MUNI'CIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD IN THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS, ON THE 8TH DAY OF APRIL, 1952.. AS PROVIDED BY THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF BEAU-' MONT, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A MAYOR AND FOUR COUNCILMEN; NAMING'THE PLACES AT WHICH SAID ELECTION SHALL BE HELD; APPOINTING JUDGES TO -PRE- SIDE OVER SAID ELECTION; PROVIDING THE MANNER OF HOLDING -SAID ELECTION; AND GIVING NOTICE THEREOF.= WHEREAS, under the provisions of the City Charter of The City of Beaumont and the laws of the State of Texas relating thereto, a regular general municipal election is required to be held in the City of Beaumont on the second Tuesday of April, 1952, for the purpose of electing a Mayor -and one Councilman from the first ward, one councilman from the second ward, one council- man from the third ward, and one councilman from the fourth ward; NOW, .THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS: Section 1. That, in accordance with the provisions of the City Charter of The City of Beaumont and the laws of the State of Texas relating thereto, there shall be held in The City of Beaumont -on the. second Tuesday in April, 1952, the same being the 8th day of April, 1952, a regular municipal election for said City for the purpose of electing a mayor, and one councilman from the first ward,,one councilman from the second ward, one councilman from the third ward, and one councilman from the fourth ward for said City. Section 2. That said election shall be held in the City of Beaumont at the following places, to wit: French High School Building; Junker School Build- ing; Central Fire Station; Averill School Building; St Annets School Building; City Hall; David Crock- ett School Building; Ogden School Building; Sabine Pass Fire Station; George Washington Carver School Building; South Park Elementary School Building; Giles School Building; Hebert School Building, and Edwards School Building. That all voters residing in' County Voting Precinct No. 1'shall vote at the French High School Building; that -all voters resid- ing in County Voting Precinct No. 2 shall vote at the Junker School.Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Pre- cincts Nos. 3, 6 and 7 shall vote at Central Fire Station Build- ing; that all voters residing in County Voting Precinct No. 4 shall vote at Averill School Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Precincts 5, 41, 47 and 50 shall vote at St. Annets School Building.; that all voters residing in County Voting Precincts Nos. 8 and 10 shall vote at the City Hall Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Precincts Nos. 9 and 11 shall vote at the David', -Crockett School Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Precinct No. 12 shall vote at the Ogden School Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Pre- cinct--No.-13 shall vote at the Sabine Pass Fire Station Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Precinct No. 14 shall vote at the George Washington Carver.School Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Precincts Nos. 15 and 42 shall vote at the South Park Elementary School Building; that all voters residing in County JVoting Precinct No. 16 shall vote at the Giles School Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Pre- cince No. 17 shall vote at the Hebert School Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Precincts Nos. 18 and 19 shall vote at the Edwards'School Building. Section 3. The following named persons are appointed presiding judges for their respective voting boxes with the authority to select and appoint their own clerks: French School, T. B. Hensley; Junker School, Mrs. J. E. Ray; Central Fire Station, Miss Effie Piland; Averill School, W. F. Wilson; St. Anne's School, Mrs. W. T. McNeill; City Hall, D. H. Barnes; David Crockett School, F. L. Fisher; 2. Ogden School, C. E. Drake; Sabine Pass Fire Station, E. A. Godwin; George Washington Carver School, Wilfred Como; South Park Elementary School, Mrs. J. C. Burkhart; Giles School., Ray Watson; Hebert School, A. L. Price; Edwards School, Mrs. C. C. Moore. Section 4.. That said election shall be held under, and the qualifications of those voting thereat, shall be controlled by the provisions of the State Laws governing elections. Section 5. A copy of this ordinance, signed by the Mayor of The City of Beaumont and attested by the City Clerk thereof, shall,serve as proper and sufficient notice of said election; and the Mayor is hereby directed to cause a copy of this ordinance signed by him- self and attested by the City Clerk, to be posted at each of the places herein designated for holding said election, at least thirty (30) days prior to the date of holding said election. .
