HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 24-WAN ORDINANCE ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE PROPER OFFI- CIALS OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT TO EXECUTE A DEED CONVEYING APPROXIMATELY 2.261 ACRES OF LAND OUT OF THE WILLIAM McFADDIN AND A. WILLIAMS SURVEYS IN, THE COUNTY OF JEFFERSON, TO D. P. WHEAT AND WALTER J. CRAWFORD FOR A CONSIDERATION OF FIVE THOUSAND FIFTY-SIX DOLLARS AND THIRTY-SIX CENTS. WHEREAS, in connection with the relocation of the Sabine - Dallas Branch of the Texas and New Orleans Railroad Company across the new U. S. Highway 90, it was necessary for The City of Beaumont to purchase certain property from the Gulf, Colorado & Santa Fe Railway Company in addition to that actually needed from said Railway Company; and, WHEREAS, it was also necessary to purchase certain land from D. P. Wheat and Walter J. Crawford, doing business as a part- nership under the name of Transit Mix Concrete & Foundation Company, and in negotiating for the purchase of the latter tract of land the City Attorney found that by -'agreeing to sell the Santa Fe land, the Transit Mix land could be purchased at a reasonable figure, and damages requested would not be pressed; and, WHEREAS, the partners of the Transit Mix Company have agreed to pay to The City of Beaumont the exact amount paid to the Gulf, Colorado & Santa Fe Railway Company for the excess land, and the City Council is of the opinion that this is a fair price for said land, especially when damages.to the other land will be dropped, which might exceed several thousand dollars, and the Council is of the opinion that it is to the best interest of The City of Beaumont to sell said land to the partners of the Transit Mix Company; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY.THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS: That the Mayor be, and he is hereby, authorized to execute on be- half of The City of Beaumont a deed dated December 19, 1950, con- veying to D. P. Wheat and Walter J. Crawford, doing business as a partnership under the name of Transit Mix Concrete & Foundation Company, approximately,.2.261 acres of land out of the William McFaddin and the A. Williams Surveys in The City of Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas, more particularly described in said deed; and the City Clerk is authorized to attest to same and to affix the seal of The City of Beaumont thereto. 1950.
