HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 11-Wf AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE LEVYING, ASSESSING AND COLLECTING OF AD VALOREM AND OTHER TAXES FOR THE YEAR 1950 FOR THE PURPOSE OF PAYING THE GENERAL OPERATING EXPENSES OF THE CITY O,F BEAUMONT AND PROVIDING A SINKING FUND TO MEET THE PAYMENT OF ALL BONDED INDEBTEDNESS OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT AND THE PAYMENT OF ACCRUING IN- TEREST THEREON; PROVIDING FOR THE PAYMENT OF OCCUPA- TION TAX AND PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS: Section 1. That there shall be and is hereby levied and shall be as- sessed and collected for the year 1950, for municipal purposes only, an ad valorem tax of One Dollar and Sixty -Four Cents ($1.64) on each One Hundred Dollars worth of property located within the present City limits of The City of Beaumont, made taxable by law, which said taxes when collected shall be for the purpose herein- after set forth as follows, to wit: For the General Fund $1.12 For the purpose of paying the accruing interest and to provide a sinking fund for the payment of the entire bonded indebtedness of The City of Beaumont .52 Section 2. That there shall be and is hereby levied and there shall be collected on all occupations and callings on which an occupational tax is levied by the State of Texas, a sum equal to one half of the amount so levied by the State of Texas, on each respective oc- cupation or calling in The City of Beaumont. Section 3. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase, or portion of this Ordinance is for any reason held invalid,or uncon- stitutional by any court of competent jurisdiction, such section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase, or portion shall be deeme separate, distinct and independent provision and such holding shall ' not affect the validity of the remaining portions thereof. 1950. That the City Tax Assessor and Collector is hereby instructed to prorate the said sums so assessed according to the provisions of the Ordinance, and to so present his statement and report to the Director of Finance that said officer may be able to place all col- lections made under said tax to the credit of the proper fund, and that the same may not be diverted or used for any other purpose. Section 3. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase or por- tion of this Ordinance is for any reason held invalid or unconsti- tutional by any court of competent jurisdiction, such section, sub- section., ub-section, sentence, clause, phrase or portion shall be deemed a separate, distinct and independent provision and such holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions thereof.
