AN ORDINANCE ACCEPTING OFFER
OF WALTER J. DURHAM TO PURCHASE
CERTAIN PROPERTY AI0 AUTHORIZING
PROPER CITY OFFICERS TO EXECUTE
AND DELIVER QUITCLAIM DEED TO
PURCHASER OF SAME.
PREAMBLE
WHEREAS on the 15th day of April., A.D., 1936; the City of
Beaumont recovered a tax judgment against Walter J. Durham,'to-
gether with the foreclosure of a tax lien upon the following
described property, to -wit:
Lot 198, in Block 17, of the Crary
Addition, City of Beaumont, Jefferson
County, Texas, as per map or plat of
said addition of record in the office'
of the County Clerk, Jefferson County,
Texas; and,
WHEREAS, on the 2nd day of June A -.D., 1936, the City of Beaumont
purchased said above described property at public auction in satis-
faction of said judgment and tax lien; and,
WHEREAS, on the 10th day of July A.D., 1936, W.W. Richardson,
Sheriff of Jefferson County, Texas, made, executed and delivered
unto the City of Beaumont a tax deed to the above described property
in satisfaction of said judgment and tax lien, which deed was recorded
in Vol.. 4.19, page 315 on the 24th day of July A.D. 1936; and,
WHEREAS on the 7th day of March, A.D.', 1949, Walter J.- Durham
offered to p?Zrchase all of the right, title, interest, claim, estate
and demand of the City of Beaumont in the above described property
for the sum of One Thousand Four Hundred ninety-six aid 46/100
($1,496.46) Dollars; and,
WHEREAS, the said Walter J. Durham paid to the City of Beaumont
the sum of One Thousand Four Hundred Ninety-six and 46/100 (1,496.46)
Dollars in connection with said offer to purchase the above described
property; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council is of the opinion that such sale is
for the best interest of the City of Beaumont and should be consummated:
NOW, therefore, be it ordained.by the City Council of the City
of Beaumont that the aforesaid offerto purchase the above described
property is hereby accepted and the Mayor and City Clerk are hereby
authorized to execute and deliver on behalf of the City of Beaumont
a quftclaim deed conveying unto Walter J. Durham all of the right,
title, interest, claim, estate and demand of the City of Beaumont
in the above described property derived by reason of said Sheriff's deed.

In pursuance of the tax committee's recommendation I have
prepared an ordinance authorizing the execution of a deed .
to Walter J. Durham of the City's interest in Lot 198, Block 17
of the Crary Addition to the City of Beaumont.
This is in the nature of a recbmption--the Walter J. Durham who
is the grantee herein being the son of the Walter J. Durham against
whom the City foreclosed its tax lien in 1936.
Our original judgment was $934.96, and we are receiving for this
deed the sum of $1496.46.
Will you please place this on the Council's program at the
earliest convenient date.
