ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLE 71-28
OF.THE CODE OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, PROVIDING
METHODS OF WIRING INSIDE BUILDINGS, AND MAKING
ARTICLE 210 OF THE NATI.ONAL ELECTRICAL CODE,
1949 EDITION, APPLICABLE IN DETERMINING.NUMBER
OF OUTLETS PER CIRCUIT; PROVIDING -FOR NON-
TAMPERABLE OVERCURRENT PROTECTIVE DEVICES; MAK-
ING IT UNLAWFUL TO BRIDGE, TAMPER WITH, OR
CHANGE ANY FUSE.OF THE PLUG, CARTRIDGE, OR LINK
TYPE IN PANEL BOARDS, MAIN SWITCHES OR SWITCH
BOARDS, OR TO ALTER OR CHANGE CIRCUIT BREAKERS
SO THAT THE ORIGINAL CALIBRATION WILL BE AF-
FECTED, OR TO TIE DOWN OR SECURE ANY CIRCUIT
BREAKER'SO THAT IT WILL NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY;
AND AMENDING ARTICLE 71-47 OF THE CODE OF THE
CITY OF BEAUMONT, PROVIDING FOR THE REPEAL,
REVOCATION OR SUSPENSION OF LICENSE BY THE EX-
AMINING BOARD OF MASTER ELECTRICIANS.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS:
THAT Article 71-2$ and Article 71-47 of the Code of The City of
Beaumont, as the latter Article was amended by ordinance passed,
by the City Council on the 19th day of July, 1949, are respective-
ly amended to read as follows:
"ARTICLE 71-28. A roved Wiring Methods When Inside
Of Building . - 1 Underground: if in moist loca-
tion, the methods allowed are A.and F.
(2) In hazardous locations because of more than
ordinary risk of fire or,explosion: Method A, as re-

in the National Electrical Code.
) Any wiring subject to continuous moisture:
Method A. Conduits and fittings must be galvanized,
threaded and water tight.
(4) In hoistways: Between riser and limit switch,
interlocks, push buttons and similar devices, method
A-. All other uses, except for light and control
cables to car, Method A.

5) 'Underplaster extensions: Methods A, D, E, F.
Temporary work, experimental or emergency work,
work for fairs, exhibitions and similar purposes:
Methods A, B, D, E, F, G, K.
(7) Conduit connections to rotating or movable elec-
trical apparatus: Method D, if length is bix feet or
less.
(8) Wiring in buildings located in the fire limits:
Method A.
(9) Wiring for decorative lighting and display win-
dows: Method A.
(10) All wiring in apartment houses of four or
more apartments: Method A.
(11) All electric wiring in grain elevators, or
places used for storing grain, express houses,
storage and warehouses, all classes of mills, fac-
tories,.livery stables, garages, hotels, laundries,
churches, theaters, moving picture shows, machine
shops, buildings used for manufacturing purposes,
places of public assembly, buildings used for
storing gasoline and other readily inflammable
materials: Method A.
(12) All sgggfwiring continuous from entrance
to main lin rom main line switch to distri-
buting cabinet: Method A or.E.
(13) Wiring in all buildings used for commercial
ur oses: Methods A, B, G.
(p14.� It is expressly -provided herein that Article
210.of.the National Electrical Code, 194.9 Edition,
is hereby adopted and shall be complied with in
order to determine the number of.outlets per circuit.
(15) All outlet boxes for ceiling and.bracket
lights shall be flush with ceiling or wall surface
or never extend more than 1/8 inch inward from the
finished surface.
(16) Drop cords shall not be installed in clothes
closets, or in places where -wearing apparel is
likely to be hung; provided, however, ceiling fix-
tures will be permissible.
(17) All wires for meter loops shall be No. $B & S
gauge wire or larger. In all two -wire installations,
four wires must be brought out for meter loops. In
all three -wire installations, five wires shall be
brought out for meter loops and shunt wires shall'be
'taped inside of cabinet and securely soldered. All
subfeeders shall not be smaller.than No. 8B & S
gauge wire. Cross over tubes will°;not be required
on inside of cabinets or cabinet gd-tters.
(18) On all three -wire installatioi the load shall
be balanced as near as possible'with:`respect to
each side of the three -wire installat bn. In all
residences, where the connected load is 5,000 watts
or more, the system of wiring shall be three -wire.
(19) All service wiring shall be No. 8B & S gauge
or larger.
(20) All service and branch circuit over.current pro-
tective devices rated at thirty amperes or less, are
to be equipped with non-tamperable overcurrent pro-
tective devices which are definite and cannot readily
be changed from one rating to another.
(21) It shall be unlawful for any person to bridge,
tamper with or change from its original installation,
except upon the approval of the chief electrical in-
spector, and then only after a proper permit for al-
teration has been issued, any fuse of the plug, car-
tridge type or link type, installed in panel boards,
main switches or switchboards, or to alter or change

circuit breakers so that the original calibration will
be affected or to tie down or secure any circuit break-
er so that it will not function properly.,'
"Article 71-47. Suspension Or Revocation Of License. -
Upon presentation to the Building Inspector of Substan-
tial evidence that the holder of any license issued
after examination by the Examining Board of Master Elec-
tricians has wilfully or persistently violated any pro-
vision of the electrical ordinances of the City, or has
apparently become incompetent to comply with such pro-
visions, or has secured a permit or permits for install-
ations not to be'performed by permitee, or has secured
permit under any pretext for installation concerning
which applicant has no valid contract, the said Building
Inspector may revoke or suspend said license."
