HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 14-ZAN ORDINANCE ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE'PROVIDING FOR THE LEVYING, ASSESSING AND COLLECTING OF.AD VALOREM AND OTHER TAXES FOR THE YEAR 1954 FOR THE PURPOSE OF PAY- ING THE GENERAL OPERATING EXPENSES OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, AND PROVIDING A SINKING FUND TO MEET THE PAYMENT OF ALL BONDED INDEBTEDNESS OF THE CITY OF-BEAUMONT-AND THE .PAYMENT OF ACCRUING IN- TEREST -THEREON: PROVIDING FOR THE PAYMENT OF OCCUPATION TAX, AND PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS: Section 1. That there shall be and is hereby levied and shall be assessed and collected for the year 1954,,for municipal purposes only, an ad valorem tax of One Dollar and Seventy Cents ($l.70).on each One Hundred -Dollars worth 'of property located within the present city limits of The City of Beaumont, made taxable by law, which said taxes when collected shall be for the purpose hereinafter set forth as follows, to wit: For the General Fund $1.26 For -the purpose of paying the accruing interest and to provide a sinking fund for the payment of the entire bonded indebted- - ness of The City of Beaumont .44 Section 2. That there shall be and is hereby levied and there shall be collected on all occupations and callings on which an occupational tax is levied by the State of Texas, a sum.equal to one-half of the amount so levied by the'State'of Texas, on each respective occupation or calling in The City of Beaumont. Section 3.. If any section, sub -section, sentence, clause, phrase, or portion of this Ordinance is for any reason held invalid or unconstitii- tional by any court of competent jurisdiction, .such section, sub- section, -sentence, clause, phrase, or portion shall be deemed a separate, distinct and independent provision and,such holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions thereof.
