MENT OF.CITY PLANNING AND ZONING;.CREATING.THE
BEAUMONT CITY..PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION;
PRESCRIBING.THE_NUMBER AND QUALIFICATIONS.OF ITS
MEMBERS -AND THEIR TERM OF.OFFICE;.PROVIDING-FOR
THE-APPOINTMENT.OF.ITS MEMBERS AND THE.METHOD OF
FILLING VACANCIES; PRESCRIBING THE METHOD. OF
DETERMINING THE OFFICERS AND PERSONNEL OF THE
DEPARTMENT OF CITY PLANNING .AND ZONING AND THEIR
DUTIES AND COMPENSATION;.MAKING DEPARTMENT HEADS
AND.OFFICIALS AVAILABLE TO PLANNING AND ZONING
{ COMMISSION;_PRESCRIBING POWERS AND DUTIES OF
PLANNING AND ZONING_COMMISSION; PROVIDING FOR
ADOPTION OF -RULES AND REGULATIONS AND -BY-LAWS;
REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES
INCONSISTENT_OR CONTRARY HERETO, AND SPECIFICALLY
THE ORDINANCE ENACTED ON AUGUST 15,_1944 CREATING
THE DEPARTMENT OF CITY PLANNING, ETC., WITH
CERTAIN PROVISOS AND.EXCEPTIONS; CONTINUING
-MEMBERS-OF CITY PLANNING COMMISSION IN OFFICE AS
MEMBERS OF CITY PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION;
PRESCRIBING JURISDICTION OF -MEMBERS OF CITY.
PLANNING.AND,ZONING COMMISSION AND PROVIDING A
SAVINGS CLAUSEP".WHICH WAS PASSED -BY THE -CITY
COMMISSION ON APRIL.2, 1946,
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS
That Sections 21 6 and 7 of the above captioned ordinance be
and it is hereby amended so that said sections shall read
hereafter as follows:
Section 2.
There is hereby created and established within and
for the City of Beaumont, a Department to be known as the
Department of City -Planning and Zoning which shall. -subject
to the jurisdiction of the City Council, be under the control
and management of a Board to be known as the Beaumont City
Planning and Zoning Commission, to be composed of fifteen (15)
members, whose offices are hereby created and established.

The members of the City Planning and Zoning Commission shall
be resident citizens, owners of real estate in the City of
Beaumont, tax payers and qualified voters of the City of
Beaumont. The members of this City Planning and Zoning.
Commission shall be appointed by.the,Mayor, subject.to the
approval of the City Council. The members of this Commission
are appointed for a two (2) year term beginning August 1, 1954
and expiring July 31, 1956 and on the first day of August each
two years thereafter. In making said appointments, the Mayor
shall also name one of the -appointees as Chairman and one as
Vice -Chairman of said City Planning and Zoning Commission,
subject to the approval of the City Council.
Vacancies occurring on the City Planning and Zoning
Commission shall be filled by appointment by the Mayor, subject
to the approval of the City Council.
The members of the City Planning and Zoning Commission,
in the performance of their duties as such, shall serve without
compensation.
Section 6.
Said City Planning and Zoning Commission shall, subject
to the approval of the City Council, make such rules and
regulations and adopt such by-laws for its own government and
for the government of the Department of City Planning and Zoning
and designate such times and places for holding meetings as it
deems proper. Eight (8) members of the City Planning and Zoning
Commission shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of
business.,
Section 7.
All ordinances or parts -of ordinances not consistent
with or contrary hereto are hereby repealed, and that certain
ordinance enacted on the 15th day of August, 1944 entitled "An
ordinance creating the Department of City Planning; creating
the Beaumont City Planning Commission; prescribing the
qualifications of its members and their term of office;
providing for the appointment of its members; providing
for certain ex -officio members and prescribing the
method of filling vacancies,of said City Planning
Commission and prescribing the duties and powers of
said City Planning Commission" is hereby expressly
repealed;`
PASSED by the City Council this the 20th day of
July, A. D., 1954.
