HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 26-YAN ORDINANCE CANVASSING THE RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF AN ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY-OF.BEAUMONT, . TEXAS, ON THE 25TH DAY OF APRIL, 1953, PURSUANT TO A PETITION OF.976 QUALIFIED.VOTERS OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT FILED WITH THE CITY CLERK REQUESTING THAT AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE KEEPING OF DOGS WITHIN SAID CITY BE SUBMITTED.TO A VOTE OF THE ELECTORS OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT FOR APPROVAL OR REJECTION, WHEREAS, on March 27, 1953, Nine Hundred and Seventy -Six (976) qualified voters of The City of Beaumont filed with the City Clerk a Petition requesting that an ordinance regulating the keeping of dogs within said City be submitted to a vote of the electors of The City of Beaumont for their approval or rejection; and, WHEREAS, notice of said election was duly given, as pro- vided by law, and said election was duly and regularly held as called and in accordance with law, and the returns thereof have been duly made by the election officials of the respective voting precincts in The City of Beaumont, Texas, having duly and regu- larly canvassed the returns of said election; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS: That the City Council of The City of Beaumont'. Texas, finds that there were cast at said election 5,105 votes, of which number the total votes cast for approval of said dog ordinance was 3,091 votes, and the total votes cast for the rejection of said dog or- dinance was 20009. The City Council of The City of Beaumont, -Texas, further finds that a majority of the qualified voters of The City of Beau- mont, Texas, voting at said election, have voted in favor of an ordinance regulating the keeping of dogs within said City, as set out in the Petition requesting the calling of such an election, and that said ordinance, in accordance with Article XI, Section 5, of the Charter of the City of Beaumont, is a valid and bind- ing ordinance of said City. 1953.
