HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 38-CAN ORDINANCE: Entitled an Ordinance creating the office of Traf- fic Manager of the Port of Beaumont, Texas, providing for his appoint- ment, tenure of dffice, compensation and duties; BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT: SECTION 1. The office of Traffic Manager of the Port of Beau- mont, Texas, is hereby created. He shall be nominated by the Mayor c� and confirmed by the City Council Iand shall hold office until discharged it H therefrom byr the City Council provided that a majority of the City Council shall vote for his dismissal or discharge. The person appoint- ed to fill said position shall be well versed in the duties of laid office. SECTION 2. The Traffic Manager of the Port of Beaumont shall perform such duties as may be imposad upon him from time to time by the City Council and Board of Dock & Wharf Commissioners, among which shall be the following: (a) Compile and publish a Terminal Tariff which shall include rates, rules and regulations governing the wharfage, storage, handling and other terminal charges at Beaumont, Texas. (b) He shall act in an advisory capacity to the Board of Dock & Wharf Commissioners in all matters pertaining to the development of Beaumont as a port. (c) He shall undertake to secure the movement of traffic to, from, and through Beaumont, Texas. (d) He shall receive such compensation monthly as may be recommended by the Board of Dock & Wharf Commissioners and ap- proved by the City Council ( $1000.00 per year, effective from January 1st, 1919, payable monthly) . i SECTION 3. Whereas, the fact that the City of Beaumont now has no Traffic Manaber creates a public emergency and imperative public necessity, i. r;essitating the suspension of the rules requiring ordinances to be read at three regular meetings, said rule is hereby suspended and this ordinance shall take effect and be in full force from and after its la7ful passage and publication.
