BY THE CITY. COUNCIL .ON APRIL 9, 19571 SHOULD BE.APPROVED; SETTING THE.DATE THEREOF; PRO- VIDING THE PLACES'AT WHICH SAID ELECTION SHALL BE HELD, AND DESIGNATING THE -PLACES WHERE THE VOTERS SHALL VOTE; APPOINTING -JUDGES TO PRESIDE.OVER.SAID ELECTION; PROVIDING.THE MANNER.OF HOLDING SAID - ELECTION; PROVIDING THE ISSUES TO BE.SUBMITTED AND FORM.OF BALLOT;_PROVIDING FOR NOTICE OF SAID ELEC- TION. WHEREAS, on the 9th day of April, 1957 the City Council of The City of Beaumont read for the first time and passed to second and final reading an ordinance entitled: and, "AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE EXTENSION OF CER- TAIN BOUNDARY LIMITS OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT AND THE ANNEXATION -OF .CERTAIN .ADDITIONAL TERRITORY, WHICH SAID.ADDITIONAL.TERRITORY.LIES ADJACENT TO THE .PRESENT BOUNDARY_LIMITS.OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT IN THE PARTICULARS STATED.IN SAID ORDINANCE; AND RESCINDING AND_NULLIFYING THE ACTION TAKEN BY_THE - CITY.COUNCIL ON DECEMBER 18, 195-6.ON AN -ORDINANCE ANNEXING PART OF THE TERRITORY DESCRIBED HEREINI" WHEREAS, on September 19,.1957 and on October 8, 1957 a petition and an amended petition containing the signatures of more than 538 qualified voters of The City of Beaumont was filed with the City Clerk requesting that said ordinance be submitted to a vote.of the electors of The City of Beaumont for their approval or rejection; and, WHEREAS, it is the -opinion of the City Council of The City of Beaumont that the question of annexation of additional territory to The City of Beaumont should be submitted to the electors of the City at a special election; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS; Section 1. That an election be held in The City of Beaumont on the 23rd day of November, A. D. 1957, at -which election there shall be submitted to the qualified voters of The City of Beaumont the following propo- sition: "Shall the ordinance read by the City Council for the first time on April 9, 1957 providing for the extension of certain boundary lines of The City of Beaumont and the annexation of certain additional territory be approved?" Section 2. That said election shall be held in The City of.Beaumont at the following places, to wit: Edwards School Building; French Elementary School Building;. Longfellow School Building; Averill School Building; Junker School Building; Millard School Building; Jefferson County Court House; George Washington Carver School Building -;-Magnolia School Building; Ogden School Building, David Crockett Junior High School Building; Hebert School Building;.Giles School Building, and L. R. Pietzsch School Building. That all voters residing in County Voting Precincts Nos. 1 and 2 shall vote at the Edwards School Building; that all voters re- siding in County Voting Precinct No. 3 shall vote at the French Ele- mentary School Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Precincts Nos. 4 and 5 shall vote at the Longfellow School Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Precincts Nos. 6 and 7 shall vote at the Averill School Building;,that all voters residing in County Voting Precinct No. 8 shall vote at the Junker School Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Precincts Nos. 9 and 10 shall vote at the Millard School Building; that all voters re- siding in County Voting Precinct'No. ll shall vote at the Jefferson County Court House; that all voters residing in County Voting Precinct No. 12 shall vote at the George Washington Carver School Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Precinct No. 13 shall vote at the Magnolia School Building; that all voters residing in County Voting, Precinct No. 14 shall vote at the Ogden School Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Precincts Nos. 151 16 and 17 shall vote at the David Crockett Junior High School Building; that all voters -2- Cmc(, 3588, residing in County Voting Precinct No. 18 shall vote at the Hebert School Building; that all voters residing in County Voting Precinct No. 19 shall vote at the Giles School Building; and that all voters residing in County Voting Precincts Nos. 20 and 21 shall vote at the L. R. Pietzsch School Building. Section 3. The following named persons are appointed presiding -Judges for their respective voting boxes, with the authority to select and appoint their own, clerks: Edwards School, Mrs. C. C. Moore French Elementary School, -Mrs. T. B. Hensley Longfellow School, .Albert Henry. Averill School, C. L.-Rutt- Junker School, Mrs. -James E. Ray Millard.School, Mrs. -Delia Harrington Jefferson County Court House, Tobe Hahn George Washington..Carver School, W.. W. Como Magnolia School, E. A. Godwin -Ogden School, 0. A. Ernest David Crockett Junior High School, H. A. McDonald Hebert -School, A. L. Price Giles School, Ray -V. Watson L. R. Pietzsch School,: Mrs. J. C. Burkhart. Section 4. There shall be printed on the ballots to be used at said election the followings "AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE EXTENSION OF CERTAIN BOUNDARY LIMITS OF. -THE CITY OF BEAUMONT AND -THE AN- NEXATION OF CERTAIN.ADDITIONAL TERRITORY, WHICH SAID ADDITIOI\TAL-TERRITORY,LIES.ADJACENT TO THE PRESENT..- BOUNDARY ,LIMITS .OF THE.CITY.OF-.BEAUMONT--IN THEJPARTI- CULARS STATED.IN SAID ORDINANCE; AND RESCINDING AND - NULLIFYING -THE -ACTION TAKEN.,BY-THE CITY COUNCIL ON - DECEMBER 1.81.1956.0N AN,ORDINANCE-ANNEXING PART OF THE TERRITORY DESCRIBED HEREIN.. _ For the 'Annexation' Ordinance. Against the 'Annexation' Ordinance." Section 5. All voters desiring to vote for the approval of the "Annex- ation" Ordinance shall so indicate on the voting machine by using the key "For,", and all voters desiring to vote against the "Annexation" Ordinance shall indicate their intention by using the key of the -3- 3�3B8 voting machine so as to register a vote 'Against" the "Annexation" Ordinance. Section 6. That a copy of this ordinance signed by the Mayor of The City of Beaumont and attested by the City Clerk of The City of Beau- mont shall serve as proper and sufficient notice of said election; and the Mayor is hereby directed to cause a copy of this ordinance, signed by himself and attested by the City Clerk, to be posted at each of the places herein designated for holding said election, at least twenty (20) days prior to the date of holding said election.
