HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 23-BB3u AN ORDINANCE ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE LEVYING, ASSESSING AND COLLECTING OF AD VALOREM AND OTHER TAXES FOR THE YEAR 1957 FOR THE PURPOSE'OF PAYING THE GENERAL OPERATING EXPENSES OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, AND PROVIDING A SINKING FUND TO MEET THE PAYMENT -WALL ALL BONDED INDEBTEDNESS OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT AND THE PAYMENT OF ACCRUING INTEREST THEREON; PROVIDING FOR THE PAYMENT OF,OCCUPATION TAX, AND PROVIDING A SAVINGS CLAUSE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS: Section 1. That there shall be and is hereby levied and shall be assessed and collected for the year 1957, for municipal pur- poses only, an ad valorem tax of One Dollar and Seventy -.two Cents ($1.72) on each One Hundred Dollar's worth of property located within the present city limits of The City of Beaumont, made taxable by law, which said taxes when collected shall be for the purpose hereinafter set forth as follows, to wit: For the General Fund $1.26 For the purpose -:;of paying the accruing.interest and to provide a sinking fund for the payment of the entire bonded indebtedness of The City of Beaumont .46 Section 2. That there shall be and is hereby levied and there shall be collected on all occupations and callings on which an occupa- tional tax is levied by the State of Texas, a sum equal to one half of the amount so levied by the State of Texas, on each re- spective occupation or calling in The City of Beaumont. Section 3. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase or portion of this ordinance is for any reason held invalid or un- constitutional by any court of competent jurisdiction, such sec- tion, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase or portion shall be deemed a separate, distinct and independent provision and such holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions thereof. 1957.
