ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLE 15-1
OF 'THE CODE OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, PRESCRIBING
THE NUMBER OF MEIhIBERS COMPOSING THE MUNICIPAL DE-
FENSE COUNCIL 'OF THE CITY, AND DECLARING AN EMER-
GENCY.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COWISSION OF THE
CITY OF BEAUMONT:
Section 1.
Article 15-1 of the Code of the City of Beaumont
is hereby amended to read as follows:
"There is hereby created the municipal de-
fense -council of the city, to be composed of the
mayor as chairman and such other persons, not ex-
ceeding fifteen in number, as the mayor may ap-
point from time to time. The mayor shall desig-
nate one of the members so appointed- as vice-
chairman. Each member of the municipal defense
council shall serve at the pleasure of the mayor,
or until the repeal of this chapter."
Section 2.
The fact -that the Municipal Defense Council .of the
City constitutes a vital adjunct to the City government and
the fact that the present personnel is inadequate in number
to perform all of the increased duties of said Municipal De-
fense Council creates a great public emergency necessitating
the suspension of the rule requiring all ordinances to be read
on three several occasions before final passage and said rule
is hereby suspended, and this ordinance is to take effect imme-
diately from and after its passage.
PASSED by the affirmative vote of all -members of the
City Commission this 30th day of March, A. D. 1943.
