HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 57-NAN ORDINANCE ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE TO 'CREATE THE OFFICE OF DIRECTOR OF FINANCE OF THE .CITY OF BEAUMONT; PROVIDING FOR HIS APPOINTMENT AND PRESCRIBING HIS, DUTIES, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.. BE IT -ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT: Section 1. There is hereby created_ the office of Director of Finance of the City of Beaumont. Such Director of Finance shall be confirmed. by the .City. Commission of the City of Beaumont who.shall determine or fix his compensation.. Section 2. It shall be the" duty of the Director of Finance to supervise the keeping of all accounts and the custody of all. public money of the City. Section 3.. It shall also be the duty of the Director of Finance to purchase all supplies for the. City of Beaumont and to store and.dispose of -same to the various departments as needed. Section 4. It shall be the further duty of the Director of Finance to supervise the issuance of all licenses and to supervise the collection of taxes and license fees._ Section 5. The Director, ,of Finance shall be sub feat to the direct- ion of the City Commission and shall do and -perform such other and further services as the City Commission may; by ordinance, direct. Section 6. Before entering upon the duties of his office, said Director of Finance shall take and subscribe the oath of office prescribed by the Constitution of the State of Texas and also 4 A shall give a good and sufficient surety company bond in such amount as the"City Commission may direct. Section --7. If -any section or portion of this ordinance shall for any reason beheld invalid, the same shall not affect the re- maining portion of this ordinance but all remaining portions hereof shall be valid and effective and it is declared by the City Commission of the City of Beaumont that all such other provisions would have, been. enacted regardless of invalidity of such portion so affected. Section S. All ordinances and parts of ordinances of the City of Beaumont in conflict.herewith are hereby expressly repealed. Section 9. The'fact that there is not now a Director of Finance for the City of Beaumont as provided for in the Charter thereof creates an imperative public emergency necessitating the sus- pension of the rule requiring ordinances to be read on three several days- before. their final passage, wherefore,. said rule, is hereby suspended and'this ordinance shall become effective from and after its passage and lawful publication.
