HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 27-N/6 l a , j- Ail F � " —alt J a -AN ORDINANCE ORDERING THE GEI�,ERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION FOR THE CITY OF BEAUMONT FOR THE YEAR 1941, -AS PROVIDED BY THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, ON THE DATE AND AT THE PLACES SET FORTH IN SAID ORDINANCE FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING SIX COUNCILMEN AS DESIGNATED IN SAID ORDINANCE; NAMING THE PLACES AT WHICH SAID ELECTION SHALT, BEHELD AND DESIGNATING THE PLACES WHERE THE VOTERS SHALL VOTE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT: Section 1 That in accordance with Section 26, Sub -section 4, of the Charter of the City of Beaumont and other provisions of said Charter, and the -laws of the State, of Texas there shall be held in.the City of Beaumont in April, 1941, the same being the lst day a regular municipal election for said City electing two councilmen for the First'Ward, the Second Ward, and two councilmen for the City. Section 2 relating thereto, on the first Tuesday of April, A. D. 1941, for the purpose of two councilmen for Third Ward in said That said election shall be held in the City of Beaumont in the -following places, to -wit: 1 In the First Ward at the Dunker School Building, Averill,School Building and Central Fire Station. In the Second Ward at the Beaumont High School Building and:the City Hall. In the Third Ward at the Sabine Pass Fire Station, David Crockett Junior High School Building, and South Park Elementary School';Bui1ding. That all voters residing in County voting precincts - numbers 1 and 2 in the City shall vote at Junker School Building; that all voters residing in County voting precinct number 4 in the City and that part of County voting precinct number 47 lying within the city limits of the City of Beaumont shall vote at Averill School Building; that all voters residing in County voting precincts numbers 3, 6 and7 in the City shall vote at the Central Fire Station; that all voters residing in County voting precinct number 5 in the City shall vote at Beaumont High School Building; that all voters residing in County voting precincts numbers 8 and 9 in the City shall vote at the City Hall; that all voters residing in County voting precincts numbers 10, 13,and 14 in the City shall vote at Sabine Pass Fire Station; that all voters residing in County voting precincts numbers 11 and 12 in the City shall vote at David Crockett Junior High School Building; and that all voters residing in County voting precincts -numbers 15, 16 and 17 in the City shall vote at the South Park Elementary School Building. Section 3 The following named persons are appointed presiding judges for their respective voting boxes in said wards, with the authority to select and appoint their own clerks: At the Dunker School Building At the Averill School Building At the Beaumont High School Building At the Central Fire Station At the City Hall At the Sabine Pass Fire Station At the David Crockett Junior High School Building At the South Park Elementary School Building Section k R. Wherry That said election shall be held under, and the qualifications of those voting thereat shall be controlled by the provisions of the State Laws governing elections. Section 5 That a copy of this ordinance signed by the Mayor of the City of Beaumont, and attested by the City Clerk thereof shall serve as proper and sufficient notice of said election, and the Mayor is hereby directed to cause a copy of this ordinance, signed by himself and attested by the City Clerk, to be posted at each of the places herein designated for holding said election at least thirty (30) days prior to the date of holding said election. Section 6 That an ordinance has not yet been passed providing for and ordering a general municipal election for the year 1941, and that such ordinance is necessary, thereby creating an imperative public emergency necessitating the suspension of the rule requiring ordinances to be read on three separate days before their passage, wherefore, said rule is hereby suspended and this ordinance shall take effect from and after its passage and the signature of the Mayor. Passed by the affirmative vote of all members of the City Commission, this the 25th day of February, A. D. 1941. d 7 -4 IP THE STATE OF TEXAS : COUNTY OF JEFFERSON : TO THE HONORABLE MAYOR, CITY COMMISSION AND CITY CLERK OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, JEFFERSON COUNTY, TEXAS: We, the undersigned Chairman and Secretary of the City Democratic Executive Committee of the Democratic Party' for the City of Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas, do hereby certify that at the Primary Election duly called and held, as provided by law, on the 28th day of February, A. D. 1941, with three voting boxes,in the First Ward, one.voting box in the Second Ward, and two voting boxes in the Third Ward, for the purpose of selecting the Nominees of the Democratic Party in said City to fill the following offices, to -wit: (a) Two Councilmen for the First Ward; (b) Two Councilmen for the Second Ward; and (c) Two Councilmen for the Third Ward, as provided by the Charter of the City of Beaumont, the following persons were duly selected as shown by the "RETURNSOF THE PRIMARY ELECTION" for the said positions named above and were duly and legally declared the Nominees of the Democratic Party of the said City of Beaumont by the Executive Committee "ACCORDING TO THE RETURNS" made by the presiding nudges of the said Primary Election and are entitled to have their names duly printed on the '"OFFICIAL BALLOT" in and for the General Election to be held in the City of Beaumont on the first Tuesday in April, A.D. 1941s, as the Nominees of the said Democratic Party for the said Offices, to -wit: For Councilmen - First Ward: R.
