An Ordinance to emend Sec -1 of an Ordinance entitled"An Ordinance providing for the levying, assessing and collecting of taxes for the year 1914, fox the purpose o�''providing a sinking fund to meet. .the payment of a bonded indebtedness of the City of Beaumont, and fox the accruing interest thereon; providing fof the support of the public schools of the City; to repair and improve the streets, alleys, and public squexes; to meet the current expenses of the City of Beaumont; to provide for the purchasing, constructing, maintaining, operating and owning the public parks; to provide a sinking fund to meet the payment of the bonded indebtedness of the +dater ;Torks System, and of the accruing interest therebn; to tax occupations and callings made taxable by the State of Texas, and to collect on all abI_e bodied male citizens over twenty-one and. under sixty years of age.," Adopted by the City Council, May 9th, 1914, and declaring an emergency: BE IT ORDAITED BY THE'CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMOFT Section One That Section 1, of an Ordinance entitled "An Ordinance providing for the levying, assessing, and collecting of taxes for the year 1914, for the purpose of providing a sinking fund to meet the paymeht of the bonded indebtedness of the City of Beaumont, and for the accruing interest thereon; providing for the support of the public schools of the City; to repair and improve the streets, alleys, and public squares; to meet the current expenses of the City of Beaumont; to provide for the purchas- ing, constructing, maintaining, operating and own- ing the public parks, to provide a sinking fund to meet the payment of the bonded indebtedness of the Nater Works System and of the accruing interest thereon.; to tax occupations and callings made taxable by the State of Texas, and to collect on all able bodied male citizens over twenty-one and under sixty years of age." Adopted by the City Council, May 9th., 1914, be and the same is hereby amended so that said Section One, shall hereafter read as follows: - see -1. Adopted by the City Council, Iday 9th, 1914, and declaring an emergency: BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT Section One That Section 1, of an Ordinance entitled "An Ordinance providing for the levying, assessing, and collecting of taxes for the year 1914, for the purpose of providing a sinking fund to meet the payment of the bonded indebtedness of the City of Beaumont, and for the accruing interest thereon; providing for the support of the public schools of the City; to repair and improve the streets, alleys, and public squares; to meet the current expenses of the City of Beaumont; to provide for the purchas- ing, constructing, maintaining, operating and own- ing the public parks, to provide a sinking fund to meet the payment of the bonded indebtedness of the 'Nater Works System and of the accruing interest thereon; to tax occupations and callings made taxable by the State of Texas, and to collect on all able bodied male citizens over twenty-one and under sixty years of age -11 Adopted by the City Council, May 9th, 1914, be and the same is hereby amended so that said Section One, shall hereafter read as follows:- Sec.l. - That there is hereby levied and shall be assessed and collected for the year 1914, the following taxes on all property situated within the corporate limits of the City of Beaumont, Texas, made taxable by law, to -wit: - Fox' the UurPose of paying general current expenses of the City Government, and for 'aeneral purposes, Thirty- Ady&h ce.ntsi(.37) on each Ones0indred (100.00) Dollars a..- 0 valuation. For the support and maintenance of public free schools, twenty-five (.25) -cents on each One Hundred ($100.) Dollars valuation. For the purpose of repairing and maintaining the streets, alleys, public squares and bridges of the city, Thirty C.30) cents on each One Hundred 0100.00) Doll& rs valuation. For the purpose of paying the accruing interest and to provide a sinking fund for the payment of the boni.ed indebtedness of the city, forty-three (.43) cents on each One Hundred 0100.) Dollars valuation. For the purchasing, constructing, mainterance and operating of the public parks, either inside or outside of the city of Beaumont, three (3) cents on each One Hundred ($100..) Dollars valuation. For the purpose of paying the accruing interest and to provide a sinking fund for the payment of the bonded indebtedness of the slater Works system, eighteen (18) cents on each One Hundred ($100.) Dollars valuation. Section Two. That all ordinances and.parts of ordinances in ,conflict h6rewith are hereby repealed. Section Three The fact that since the adoption of the ordinance on May 9th levying the taxes for the year 1914, the tax payers have voted additional bonds in the sum of '1759000. for -the purchase of the Kirby I,umber Company n For the support and maintenance "of public free schools, twenty-five (.2.5) -cents on each One Hundred ($100.) Dollars valuation. , For the purpose of repairing and maintaining the streets, alleys, public squares and bridges of the city, Thirty ('.30) cents on each One Hundred (4100.00) Dollar rs valuation. For the purpose of paying the accruing interest and to provide a sinking fund for the payment of the bonied indebtedness of the city, forty-three (.43) cents on each One Hundred 0100.) Dollars valuation. For the purchasing, constructing, mainter:anee and operating of the public parks, either inside or outside of the city of BeaUmont, three (3) cents on each One Hundred ($100.) Dollars valuation. For the purpose of paying the accruing interest and to provide a sinking fund for the payment of the bonded indebtedness ,of the dater Works system, eighteen (18) cents on each One Hundred ($100.) Dollars valuation. Section Two. That all ordinances and parts of ordinances in ,conflict herewith are hereby repealed. Section Three The fact that since the adoption of the ordinance on May 9th levying the taxes for the year 1914, the. tax payers have voted additional bonds in the sum of 175,000. for the purchase of the Kirby Dumber Company property, requiring a levy of 6 cents to take care of same, and the fact that it has-been found that the taxes levied for the interest and sinking fund were more than sufficient to take care of the outstanding bonded indebtedness, . I LAG, necessitated the re -apportionment of the tax levy, and creates an emergency and imperative public necessity, that the rule re4iring ordinances to be read at three separate meetings be suspended, such rule is therefore suspended, and this ordinance shall take effect from,and anter its passage and lawful publication.
