ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 8 OF
THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS,
BY AMENDING SECTION 8-1, PROVIDING FOR
ADOPTING THE 1969 EDITION OF THE SOUTHERN
STANDARD BUILDING CODE; PROVIDING A PENALTY,
PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY, AND REPEALING
ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN
CONFLICT HEREWITH.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS:
1.
,Triat Section 8-1 of The Code of Ordinances of Beaumont,
Texas, be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 8-1. Southern Standard Building Code --
Adoption
Tnere is hereby adopted by the City for the pur-
pose of establishing rules and regulations for
the construction, alteration, removal, demolition,
equipment, use and occupancy, location and main-
tenance of buildings and structures, excluding
permits and penalties, that certain building code
known as the Southern Standard Building Code re-
commended by the Southern Building Code Congress,
being particularly the 1969 Revision thereof,
and all amendments thereof, of which one copy has
been and now is filed in the office of the city,/
clerk of the city and the same is hereby adopted
and incorporated as fully as if set out at length
herein, and from the date on which this section
shall take effect, the provisions thereof shall
be controlling in the construction, alteration,
repair, removal, demolition, equipment and main-
tenance of all buildings and other structures
within the corporate limits of the city, save and
except the portions of the Southern Standard
Building Code which are hereby deleted, substituted,
modified or amended as set forth in this chapter."

Treat any person who violates any provision of this
ordinance shall, upon conviction, be punished as provided in
Section 1-8 of the Code of Ordinances of Beaumont, Texas.

Tnat if any section, subsection, sentence, clause or
phrase of this ordinance or the application of same to a par-
ticular set of persons or circumstances should for any reason
be held to be invalid, such invalidity shall in no wise affect

the remaining portions of this ordinance, and to such end
the various portions and provisions of this ordinance are
declared to be severable.
4.
Triat all ordinances and parts of ordinances in con-
flict herewith are hereby repealed.
PASSED by the City Council this 14th day of October,
1969.
