HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 70-52ENTITLED AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE .LEVYING, ASSESSING AND COLLECTING'OF AD VALOREM AND OTHER TAXES FOR THE YEAR 1970 FOR THE PURPOSE OF PAY- ING THE GENERAL OPERATING EXPENSES OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, AND PROVIDING A SINKING FUND TO MEET THE PAYMENT OF ALL BONDED INDEBTEDNESS OF THE CITY OF BEAUMONT AND THE -;PAYMENT OF:ACCRUING„INTEREST THEREON; PROVIDING FOR THE PAYMENT OF OCCUPATION TAX; AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF BEAUMONT, TEXAS: Section 1. That there shall be and is hereby levied and shall be assessed and collected for the year 1970, for municipal pur- poses only, an ad valorem tax of One Dollar and Forty-seven Cents ($1.47) on each One Hundred Dollars' worth of property located within the present city limits of The City of Beaumont made taxable by law, which said taxes when collected shall be for the purposes hereinafter set forth as follows, to -wit: For the General Fund $1.165 For the purpose of paying the accruing interest and to pro- vide a sinking fund for the payment of the entire bonded indebtedness of The City of Beaumont .305 Section 2. That there shall be and is hereby levied and there shall be collected.on all occupations and callings on which an occupational tax is`- levied by - the--S-ta-te -of. --Texasa sum_ equal to one half of the amount so levied by the State of Texas, on each respective occupation or calling in The City of Beaumont. Section 3. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase, or portion of this ordinance is for any reason held invalid or /?-- / � — C 5�� 1696 unconstitutional by any court of competent jurisdiction, such section, subsection, sentence, clause, phrase, or portion shall be deemed a separate, distinct and independent provision and such holding shall not affect the validity of the remain- ing portions hereof.
